On a couple of occasion there has been heated discussion on the past and future of the Falkland islands. Well recently the residents said their piece and voted 1513-3 to stay British.

The Argentine Foreign Affair Minister still feels he can approach the UN to demand sovereignty talks over the island. It looks like the talking has been done.

The british empire is Kaput. They should do the honourable thing and give the territory back to Argentina.

Taking Hong Kong back would restore Britain to its former glory, hanging on to the Falklands do not.

Back to Argentina? They never own it. Spain controlled it for less than 20 years. The Brits have for ~130 years. You might want to check with your make beleive historians before you continue to make idiot comments like that. For some reason you think Britain is looking at holding on to some non existant empire. You truly are a prat. I guess you don't believe in a populations right to self determination.

It is not a population, Blackie. It is 1616 bewildered sheepfarmers stuck in an inhospitable place, that is only populated because of massive welfare provided by a little island, that once ruled the world and cannot seem to forget it. Again, if the british want to return to their former glorious (some would say murderous, but let that go) past, they should take back East Africa or the carolinas.

PS: I know you dont bother to increase your knowledge, but you could learn something from watching Noam Chomsky's lecture.

The population might beg to differ. Welfare? Tell us more. Perhaps your hero Chomsky has something to add.

As far as learning something, I'm more convinced than ever you don't watch many of them, especially the latest one. More make believe reading from make believe books by make believe authors might help you.

Sounds like you still haven't located the book by Jeremy Wolsmith Abelsworth, Viking Press, 1943. It was published during the war, hence in limited numbers, and has not been reprinted since, even if it is the seminal work about the influence of Vikings on the development of british democratic rule. Jeremy Wolsmith Abelsworth shows a clear path from the Viking Frændeting to the british parliament.

Nice try. Apparently no one has ever mentioned it anywhere except on TERB as a Web search comes up with nothing. Imagine, you've read a book that no one has ever commented on outside TERB, talk about seminal.

Could it be that Google has cought on to your discriminatory views about Vikings and are filtering out anything positive about Vikings?

What's Argentina offering as a purchase price for these islands it has never owned and for the sheep ranches on them? Whatever colour of right they may try to paint their claim with, the basic principle of peaceful transfer of ownership is an exchange agreeable to both parties. Anything else is a species of robbery. Even if you claim you're 'stealing your own back' it's still thievery.

In the Falklands case, as Argentina never did possess or populate the Islands, it's hard to justify a traditional claim of ownership. Today's arcane rules about undersea geography conferring ownership are what they're relying on, but that's an argument for judges and courts./ As if we had such an effective system between nations.

We've already seen them try to take the Islands by force and fail, and they've certainly provoked much whining for and against their proposition. But why have they been so slow to make an offer? It is how the USA acquired the Louisiana Purchase and Alaska; it's the way we do things in the New World.

I think they offered groggy, fugi, two goats and a chicken.
Let us all pray that Argentina accepts the offer.
