The raptors got the most talented player in this deal in the form of Jalen Rose, but unfortunately Jalen is a malcontent. For the past 10 yrs, he's been a 'me' first kind of player driving coaches crazy. But in order to win in the NBA, you need talent and Jalen is talented but can he be a 'team' first type of player. If he can, then it's a great trade, if not, then he'll be another headache for 4 more years.
I trade Marshall for JYD in a heartbeat, Marshall can score and rebound in double figures....JYD was only averaging 8.5 rebounds per game anyways....plus the raptors were being outrebound by their oponents even with davis and JYD. At least they can score now after the trade.
As for Baxter for Jefferies, it was a no brainer....Lonny is a 'big' that has more potential then Jefferies. Baxter dropped 19 on Tim be Duncan, when the bulls played San Antonio....can you ever say that about Jefferies?
I think the Raps needed to make a trade b/c the team really was painful to watch as is.
Also, everyone has be saying Vince has been playing well....I would disagree, he's been so inconsistent this season. One night he will drop 43...the next he might get 18. His numbers are not great this year 22pts, 41% shooting, 4.6 boards and 4.1 dimes. This is below his career average, and way below the height (first lenny wilkens yr) when he average 28.5 pts while shooting 46 %. That yr he was consistently dropping 25 to 33 pts per game.
Chris Bosh looks promising, but with the trade, will he have to play centre....this might stunt his development
Also, most people think Kevin O'Neil is doing great job which I think is a misconception. Are the Raptors doing a better defensive job....I don't think the raptors have improved that much defensively....it's done with smoke and mirrors....all Kevin O'Neil did was slow down the game by making his players milk the shot clock more b/f they shoot so the opponents score is lower b/c there's less time in the game. The Raps are still allowing teams to shoot at a 43% efficency which is middle of the Pact defensively, while the Raps are shooting only 39% as a team.
...and half the time, the raptors don't even compete especially on back to back games....that's the coaches job to light a fire under the player's arse. That was the criticism with Lenny Wilkens and it hasn't change under O'Neil....cuz they are god awful somethings to watch.
