This team is bad it lacks talent big time it has nice pieces like Chris Bosh and Rafer Alston is a decent point guard but it is loaded with journeymen, to me the future looks bleak and im not totally sold on Rob Babcock or Sam Mitchell at all, if i was MLSE i would be very concerned about lack of buzz and dwindling attendance for the rest of the season.

I think this team could do a complete 180 by 2 years from now. A number of big contracts will be gone by then meaning we could bring in an impact FA or 2...slide that in beside Bosh, Bonner, Araujo, etc (all of whom will be hitting their stride) and you've got some nice pieces.

Add to that the fact that we've got 3 1st round draft picks in the next 2 years...which could be used for trading up, or trading for a player, or just using for the draft. I also don't buy into this "I don't trust Babcock at the draft" stuff either. He really doesn't have enough of a history at the draft to make that judgement.

Also, I don't think Araujo was nearly as bad a pick as some people have made out. In games where he's had some minutes he's done well...and otherwise hasn't had a shot yet. He could turn into a nice player and it's way to early to say he's a bust.

If Vince wasn't the player to build a team around ... does anyone feel that Chris Bosh is that player? I think he'll be decent but wondering 'bout the potential superstar tag. He's beating bigger players with his athleticism and quickness now. He's still rail thin ... and yeah, yeah I know ... he's still young ... he would of been a junior at Georgia Tech.

I'm looking forward to Bosh/Araujo getting better together. Hopefully we can get an athletic young SF with a tonne of potential in the draft, maybe another PG too.

We have to acquire the young talent first before we can determine who we can build the franchise around. Bosh may be that player or not. However, he is still 20 yrs old and, like you said, is still filling out. It took Jermaine O'Neil and Kevin Garnett at least 5 years to really become very good players. We have to really be patient for a few more years. However, we are moving in the right direction as a franchise.

As a big time raptor fan since day 1, it really hurts to see our team losing like this. Especially since we got off to such a great start out of the gate. What's really frustrating is that we keep losing these f**k'n games in the last minute. There have been so many close games, but a loss is a loss still.
As for changes, I think we need to get rid of Jalen Rose- even though he's not a bad player. It's just that for $14 million a year, we should be getting more production. Like I said, he's not bad...but waaay overpriced. I don't think he's a 'max' contract type of player. I'm sure Babcock is shopping him around.
At least there's hope in the young guys. Bosh is obviously gonna get better, but I don't know if he'll develop into a 'franchise' power forward. Right now, there's only 2 such players in the L- Garnett and Duncan. Bosh has a long way to go before he get's to their calibre. As for Araujo, some people have already written off as a bust, but from what I saw from him during the last 2 games (as a starter vs. L.A. & G.S.) I think he'll be alright. People should remember he's still a kid who's a bit raw. But he definitely showed he's got some skills- he's not just a big pylon. He's still a rookie who hasn't received much playing time, so watch him actually PLAY for awhile before giving up on him.
As funny as it sounds, we still got a chance to sneak into the playoffs. The E conf. is still weak outside of maybe 4 teams and most likely there'll be 1 or 2 teams w/ losing records that'll be in. If we can get a good trade w/ Rose, I think we can still salvage the season.

EXACTLY!......Some very good TEAMS.....and I mean T E A M S....made it into the playoffs from way back last year, and of course noone thought Detroit would destroy L.A. like they did last year in the finals. Miami went on a mad streak last year to get in the playoffs.

Our offense scoring average up in the nineties is really something....even with Oakley, Davis, Curry Dee Brown etc we only averaged in the same points total....our offense might even be more potent than back then. The big plus is our offensive is far from predictable...no more handing over to Vince 25feet out and standing around..and the team is DEEP. THere will be teams suffering from injuries as the season goes on and they will lose games. New York is 1-2 injuries away from a 8-10 game skid. The Raps need to concentrate on DEFENSE and they will get better. If ARRUJO does come around then our team is already pretty complete. Double Doubles from Arrujo, Marshall, Bosh and even Raefer and some SOLID DEFENSE is what's necessary.

Its asking alot but it isn't entirely impossible.

-optimist.

Hey, if the Raps play half as god on the road, hell, 1/3 as good on the road as they play at home, they'll make it in for sure.

Man, I'm just having fun seeing Vince pour point after point in as a NET. Every point he scores over the 12 or so a game he averaged as a Raptor this season is a huge snot ball on his former team. They should've dealt him from the time he asked so we could focus on Bosh and the boys and jell that team instead of keeping that pansy around to sulk everyone up.

Go RAPS!

vince scored big again last night...

H O W E V E R !!!......

the Nets lose and if they keep losing Vince will dry out in a hurry...he pretends like he doesn't care but its obvious he plays on emotion like anyone else. It easy to get pumped up when you're winning......its easier to sulk and give up when you're losing.....its like watching your wife who looked like Shania Twain when you got married slowly turn into Rosanne Barr.

If we can get back to 500 this month(a mammoth feat...and would probably put us in 1st place in the division)....maybe Mourning might miraculously recover and start playing....
....
...
........ so we can trade his @SS.!!!

The Raptors 10th year anniversary present from Babcock was to start again from scratch as close to an expansion team as you can get. We traded Carter for a has-been that doesn't even want to play here, a couple of 30 somethings and 2 first round pics that won't even be high ones. Hard to believe we draw well attendance wise still....

the wins keep coming....

since the trade...........we've just passed New Jersey in the standings.

Of course 3 losses in the next 3 winnable games might turns things back around............wait and see.

Last few games, Arujo has played with some promise, hammering guys around the basket and throwing his muscle around. Needs to work on his touch but by next year should be a reasonable player. (He isn't as funny as the Oak though).

The team seems to have bought into Sam's up tempo game without the cry-baby. Mo Pete seems more willing to do the dirty work and Eric Williams will fit in well. Best of all, Rose coming off the bench means he's putting up numbers agaist the other teams 2nd string and looking good for a trade. I still would have prefered the Carter, Marshal for Baron Davis (bad knees) and the home town kid Maglore but it's not going to stop me from going to the games. (Especially since averaging 97 ppg means PIZZA)

Latest rumour is a big 4-way trade. Rose to NY, Penny Hardaway to TO, Spreewell moving, as well as Marshall and (can't remember) to Minnesota.

10 years later, the Raptors are marginally above an expansion team again. If we didn't have Carter for all of those years, the Raptors would have folded just like the woeful Grizzlies did.

unloading Carter now was perfect. Watched the Nets play Houston last night and couldn't help noticing that Carter's game has gone downhill even from his last days in T.O.

He floats around doing nothing on offense........his defense his porous at best........still taking only jumpers...nothing hitting.....no clutch plays in fourth quarter.............Jason Kidd will outrebound Carter all year and he's 3 inches shorter playing the point..........it was like watching Holyfield fight today.........sad.

I just read about the rumour on the net. It would be a grade 'A' dumbass move if Babcock makes it. Getting Penny 'has-been' Hardaway for Jalen Rose 1-for1 would be a bad deal....but to give up Donyell as well? I understand cutting Rose's salary (overpaid IMO)makes sense, but Penny actually makes more than Jalen and produces less. And Penny's contract doesn't run out till end of 2006- so we're not clearing any cap room for a while.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Raptors are trying to get rid of Marshall. He was the most consistent Raptor last year and he doesn't make alot of money (under $5mil for this year) so clearing cap room can't be the issue. IMO Marshall is a KEEPER- he's a good rebounder w/ a good outside shot and can give you 2 blks a game.

We should keep in mind that it's just a RUMOUR, so maybe there's more to it than what's printed. But if all the names and details are accurate, then this deal sucks big-time for the Raps.
