There is a long way from disagreeing with rap and banning it IMHO. if you go back to comments made about Elvis, The Beatles and others, they sounded very much the same....
Don't worry, Langweile, I'm not suggesting banning rap, though I personally will not acknowledge it as legitimate music. However, I do wish it had never been created in the first place. I didn't mind so much back when it was largely an underground, fringe sort of thing, but I do wish it hadn't become so accepted by the mainstream, as it has created a generation of little rascals that seem to be rather closeminded to listening to anything else. I pity those that will never listen to singers like Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald or Nat King Cole, or the songs of Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer et al. When one is exposed to all the wonderful real music from yesteryear, whether it's the "Tin Pan Alley" stuff of my taste, or the aforementioned Motown sound, or the tuneful light 70s/80s pop of Billy Joel, Olivia Newton-John, Anne Murray, etc., once you've grown up listening to real melody, rap has all the aesthetic appeal of a rusty nail scraping along a blackboard.

But I have this thing, see, called looking at the larger picture that, having your head jammed firmly up your ass, you may have difficulty seeing.
Now, now. Don't get influenced by your music. Listen to Kylie "Love at First Site". Gives me a boner.

Honestly it has NOTHING to do with the music. Its all in parenting and mentality. teach your kids to use their heads.. In fact. SPEND TIME with your children.. for some people they may as well give their kids to someone who cares.. either way.. its not the kids that are messed up. its PARENTS with no clue on parenting and their parents that failed them..etc.etc.. its all in how we are raised. you teach your kid to show respect and always be respectful and that there is always a "logical and right way" to achive and succed at things, and you would not have this kinda shit. wtf is this yappin about rap and blaming the fact that our society is falling behind in morals and self respect.

you can blame rappers like p.diddy or 50 cent or eminem or even those rappers out there that rap political banter.. Its all words and expression and if you REALLY want to fight it, TEACH your child(ren) to fuckin respect themselves, not give in to peer pressure and cave into "the crowd beliefs"

People that can't pull their heads out of their ass and see that our failure(s) stem deeper than our current surroundings are just useless and should not bother wasting my time or anyone elses by trying to pretend they know whats goin on.

the problems we face today.. they started years and years ago.. its not like all of a sudden 10 people bumped into one another waiting for the signal to walk, and started talkin about blowing up the WTC and ten minutes later they were on planes ... its not like that rapper (not that i listen to rap) monsiur what the hell ever.. is the first person to ever "speak his mind" and this suddenly sparked violent behaviour in people.

get a grip and accept that it is WHAT we teach our people that will change them. in twenty years. the way society is going.. this lil france riot aint shit.. humanity is faulked and all i see is people yappin about who the hell can be blamed.. try teaching your children to have respect and love them. we live in a selfish world these days.. even myself. i would have prefered to be on a farm in the middle of but fuck nowhere slaving on the land all day surrounded by security and love and even though it would have been strict,, a full loving family.
however that is not the case.. and YEAH society has changed. but that doesn't mean that we can not instill the GOOD values in our children . Just cause Momma was a crackwhore does not mean i gotta teach my son to be a thug.

we do so much wrong, it is easy to preach, and easy to point out other peoples failures or flaws. when it all comes down to it if we put more effort into Changing the way we live today in order to improve our Child(rens) tomnorrow... the future would look so much better.

I really dont know if any of that makes any sense. but to me it does :D lol
and no i am not personally "attacking" anyone here.. just reading this brings out some OPINIONS. and you people get to read them.

Had a good laugh reading these posts.

Country music and heavy metal can be just as bad in terms of glorifying violence, promoting substance abuse and being misogynist.

Also, its wrong to say all rap is bad. If you take the time to look around there are some really talented rappers who have intelligent messages and positive outlooks. Look up the whole genre of conscious hip hop and you'll find out about people like KRS 1 and Chuck D. The thug image is part of pop music but certainly not representative of hip hop as a whole. That's like using boybands (a specific type of music) to represent all male vocalists.

To blame Rap for the violence is silly. There are so many other factors at play. I'ts like blaming one drop of water for the floods caused by Katrina.

I think this thread reflects more about people's feelings about hip hop rather than any real insight into its effects on behaviour.

If you don't like hip hop that's fine. Say it as much as you want. But don't use that disdain to make inane claims regarding its effects on people.

Emotionally stable people are not affected by music lyrics. Do you really think the Columbine shooters were merely a product of the music and video games they played? Or was it the alienation, bullying etc that they felt?
