Torres suspended for 41 games for his latest cheap head shot on an Anaheim player a few days ago. Too much or does he deserve it for his long history of blatant cheap hits?

This guy is almost as bad as Matt Cooke.

Raffi Torres is still the champion of the cheap head shot. He has been suspended yearly for head shots and does not ever learn. Maybe it is time to ban him from hockey permanently. It's only a matter of time before he splits an opponent's skull open or breaks somebody's neck.

Torres is probably on crack. He got what he deserves.
Or mixing roids with pain meds?

Either way the NHL is about 10 years overdue on instituting a 3-strikes policy on blatant headshots & attempts to injure. There really has to be a mechanism for getting these guys out of the NHL and it's affiliate leagues permanentley - not only to protect other players but also to protect these guys from themselves - maybe if they know they're through with high-level hockey early enough they might stop juicing and never get to the point of needing to abuse prescriptions so less chance of suicide or going "Benoit" on innocent people later in life.

That's such a logical assumption. If someone takes a tripping penalty they are probably stoned. Double minor for high sticking? Drunk and stoned. Clearly head shots are related to being on crack.

Was actually a prolific scorer and a high draft pick-fifth overall I believe. So, yes I would say he has sctual hockey skills.
Thanks for the background info.

Query: Does he still have hockey skills to-day? Players with actual hockey skills don't resort to cheap shots.

It's surprising how many have skills that don't transfer to NHL success. Steve Downie had considerable skills. Cheap shot artist. Matt Cooke was very good as a junior. Cheap shot artist. Basil McCrae was a high scoring winger as a junior. Pure fighter in NHL. Most "goons" were good junior players, but have to resort to different styles of play at the next level. Players with actually hockey skills do resort to cheap shots at times. Dale Hunter had considerable offensive and defensive talent, but I think ************ Turgeon may feel that he would occasionally resort to cheap shots.

Yes because being on drugs hinders good decision making.

Chris Pronger had actual hockey skills, and was a serious cheap shot artist.

So do lots of other things. Perhaps he wasn't well rested. Or is under some stress. Or doesn't have all the pertinent information. Or just doesn't care. Or is trying to impress a girl. Or was thinking with the wrong head. All these things also hinder good decision making.

He got what he deserves.

I used to think that he has a reputation that is ill deserved, but watching him more closely, he is really trying to take a player out and that's where the difference is in a body check or physical player. A player who is taking the other player out of the play or to add miles to his game and Torres, who is simply trying to take a player out of the game.

I saw the hit on YouTube but it was hard to tell if it was a head shot. If he got 41 games I guess it was.

Does this Torres guy have any actual hockey skills?
He's only played 44 games in the past 3 year and has 10 goals. I wouldn't say he's a valuable player.

It's amazing that any NHL team wants him. Colton Orr also had little hockey skills but at least he fought you mano a mano. Chris Neil is a tough guy who has decent hockey skills.
