I'd consider that damning her with faint praise. RM is a much more accomplished and versatile actress than SB.

I wasn't comparing their acting abilities, it was a comment on their respective images, Canada's Sweetheart and America's Sweetheart.

This just in.

There is movement on the George Miller front but it's not what it should be. A Furiosa film is in the works, it's a big risk. There's no guarantee that Charlize Theron (as talented as she is) can sell an action film on her own, Atomic Blonde did so so business at the box office. Miller may have no choice, WB can't match the contract Sony gave Tom Hardy to make the Venom franchise. Miller is out in the cold since Hardy has promised a second season of Taboo after Venom 2. Even though Hardy fulfilled his contractual obligation with A Christmas Carol, FX has left the door open on a second season. Perhaps Miller could bring back an original cast member who had to drop out due to advancing pregnancy. Miller rewrote Fury Road after Teresa Palmer couldn't continue, the original had Furiosa saving her sister Splendid from becoming a concubine of Joe. Rose Huntigton Whiteley replaced her in a reduced role.

This is too harsh, a Furiosa film could work if done properly - I have faith in Miller.

I have my own thoughts on Taboo, they can't continue the series without Lorna Bow. Jessie Buckley was a sensation in S1, she followed that up with Chernobyl. Ludmilla Ignatenko is a actual person, she had a child from her dying fireman husband without birth defects. The story of how Vancouver Island became part of Canada, not part of the USA has to be told, S2 should be epic.

Have you noticed RM is the girl who gets cast as the time traveler's wife? I'm guessing being married to a time traveler takes a lot of patience and diplomacy. If the marriage gets really heated, you're just gonna go back in time and avoid meeting your future wife. No messy divorce necessary. Bye-bye. Perhaps if your married to Rachel McAdams, you're going to stick it out through the bad times. Hell, you're married to Rachel McAdams! Maybe that's why she's always cast as the time traveler's wife.

I just finished streaming S2 of True Detective, what did I learn?

That LA is a hell hole if you don't have the means to live rich. That RM sent up her wholesome image by playing a tough cop with a kinky streak. Her intro into the series is priceless. That Vince Vaughan is a better actor than I first thought, for his semi retired gangster Frank Simoyan he mimicked Burt Lancaster's manner of speech. That Canadian Taylor Kitsch doesn't deserve the shit that's been thrown at him. I'm still not convinced on Colin Farrell, his Detective Valcaro never got beyond grim. I watched the Mexican gun battle several times to see if RM used a stunt double, I couldn't pick one out...she must have been quite the tomboy growing up.

Audiences had trouble with with S2, I admit it got so convoluted that it was hard to follow - until the Mexican gun battle. After that, and how the LAPD treated the bloodbath, I knew that all the protagonists were doomed. LA must be a very corrupt place, when corruption sets in it's almost impossible to clean up. Plutocrats become kleptocrats, with a private army at their disposal. Most viewers hated most of the finale episode but it's logical, going against the 0.1% is a death sentence. Which I why I took exception to J-Low's shitty film Hustlers. Sure you can get away with robbing middle managers but if they attempted to rob a plutocrat, they would all disappear.

On a lighter note here's RM doing the ALS challenge with fellow Toronto resident and very under-rated actress Zoie Palmer.

William Sadler is returning, not sure if he's The Grim Reaper again. I thought he was Canadian, he's from Buffalo. Last I saw him he was getting his ass handed to him by Clancy Brown in The Shawshank Redemption.
Last I saw him was very recently in the Amazon show Hunters. Showing his age.

Fair enough.

Yes, exactly. Why do they cast Rachel McAdams? You have to believe the time traveler can't wait to get back to his wife.

Many men would simply go back in time to get a new girlfriend or a new wife without much fuss involved.

she has nice b boobs

I have not seen her lately, but in some of her earlier oevres like wedding crashers and the one on the airplane, I found her to play overly sweet, like a caricature.

Most likely, that would be from instructions from the director. He usually decides how he wants the characters portrayed.

To sell a film, directors shoot their actors in the best possible light. Wes Craven did it to perfection in Red Eye, shooting RM as the ultimate sweet sex kitten.

Under normal circumstances, she and Cillian Murphy would join the mile high club.

I actually enjoyed that movie. The other one was a wholesale disaster that could potentially be used to torture men.

Yikes! Go easy on the hyperbole!!
None was intended. I don't think much of SB's acting, especially now that she's too old to play the cutsie young sweetheart roles.

Sandra Bullock is doing very well, she's the executive producer of Birdbox, she must have gotten nice royalty cheques from Netflix for that. She was great in Gravity, George Clooney was the executive producer of it, he got to shake the money tree. Clooney is also Executive producer of Catch 22, a limited series based on Joseph Heller's controversial book about American bomber pilots in WW II.

Also Sam Raimi is laughing best, he's the executive producer of Ready or Not. The film just added an extra $10 million on VOD, destroying Birds of Prey in the process. Ready or Not now has a $63 million gross on a cost of $6 million. That's bad news for Margot Robbie, Birds of Prey cost $82 million to make.

I'm not sure how this film will do but the lovely Ms. Weaving has become a very hot property...in Hollywood money talks.
