how do you find out how much the duties or brokerage fees are going to be before you buy something?

I want to buy something from cali, but I'm reluctant because of being burned by UPS before.

The brokerage fees are the biggest scam if you ask me, you've already bought the item and only when it arrives at your door do they tell you that you owe %50 more in brokerage fees.

any advice is appreciated.

man, do a search, this has been answered at least 100 times before.

If you want to know about taxes and duties: everything is subject to GST. PST isn't applicable, and duty isn't applicable to just about anything made in the US. If it is made overseas there will be duty on it. Go to the revenue canada website. They have a list of duties on everything.

UPS is a ripoff. Do not buy anything from anyone who says that's who they ship with. If they don't use USPS (no brokerage) then DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!!

If you MUST the average brokerage fee should be no more than $65.00. I've had shipments totalling $500K cleared for $65.00 so you shouldn't pay anymore than that...ever.

Didn't want to sound harsh but if you're looking for specific duty rates there are as many different rates as there are grains of sand in a sandbox. For eg: if you buy computer parts it's one rate, but if it is assembled it is another. To make it worse, the chips used in the parts are yet another rate. Actually, they could be all the same rate but different codes. That's the government for you: make things more complicated. If they'd just say: all computer parts, components or chips, use this code and rate. Simple.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you ordering? I might be able to give you direct advice because I've ordered quite a bit of stuff off ebay. (funny enough, I ordered some watch batteries made in china from the US and there wasn't any duty on them, but they were only worth $5.00 total for like 40).

If they do not ship via US Postal Service, do not buy anything from them.

If the item is sent as a 'gift', are duties or tax still added?

when you mark it as a geniune gift on cn-22 label in green usually(fingers crossed ) it passes without.
so is UPS still charging like 45 to clear a package nowadays? ... further is it an urban myth that the boys in the "southern Italian club" own it!? ...u know the "our thing" club

If this shipping information is not on the item description then I recommend asking the seller through the messaging system.

Agreed! Whatever you do, don't let them ship by UPS
