Question about pimps?

I'm not sure if I could start this topic here, but anyways...

One of the girls I meet since last year is having some major problems. She used to have a pimp, left it and now is INDY. The crazy guy found out where she lives and now one of the girls that work for him is sending her nasty text, saying that will send her to police, talking about tax fraud because of her prostitution income... I know it's a very complicated matter. But I don't have much information about it, and thought that some of you could give an opinion.

What I think is: She doesn't keep much money on her bank account, canada gov never asked her anything about taxes. So there's nothing to worry about?

She can at anytime use the voluntary disclosure program at CRA and declare her income for the past three years and just pay the tax and the interest. This is the way to do it in my view. If she doesn't wish to pay taxes then I don't have any advice in that regard as it is not legal to do so on her side.

Her main worry should be about the pimp (hopefully he is not violent). What the pimp and the girl who does her dirty work likely her too trapped in his spider web is doing is criminal. I think she should remind the a-hole pimp and his slave that blackmail is criminal and subject to years in jail whereas her deed is just subject to fine if she is ever reported for not declaring taxes so if she ever threaten her again she would report her to LE. The text that she is sending her is a solid proof of blackmail. Not to mention that pimping is criminal too on the top of blackmail. Never submit to blackmail as it would become a lifetime issue always report them to the police.
so she can declare her income as an escort? she's just a student.

That income must be declared and the source of that income cannot lead to persecution of any kind. What is against the law is not declaring taxable income. Students have responsibilities to be tax abiding citizens as well. They also potentially get more credits against income. Assuming she is using tuition credits (not someone in her family), her first 20K of income (at least) would be tax free.

I don't support pimps or blackmail in any way. There are situations when blackmail can be more effective (breaking the law / secret) and these scum will take advantage of it.

As CH said is she really wants to resolve the situation she can pay some taxes and report the blackmail and harassment. Does she want to pay some taxes - at least a minimal amount?

The other option is staying quiet. If she follows this option, I don't think a pimp will go through with reporting her anyway, as it implicates him as well. And if the tax man comes, she may get away with it as she is a student and will likely not have accumulated any major assets. But then she is choosing money over harassment / fear of getting charged.

Thanks, Maurice.

I don't know what she pays or doesn't, but your information might help.

Hopefully this pimp get caught soon. Found out he is the pimp of two girls downtown that I've met before. Def not going back there. The guy seems to be a huge problem...

It is not exactly mutually destructive as the pimp will be destroyed completely to the ground (blackmail, living off, not paying taxes .... the first two being criminal) whereas the lady would only have to pay her taxes plus fines (no fines if she discloses) so it is like A non-nuclear third world attacking Russia 30 years ago when Russia had the strongest nuclear military lol.
Well said

Two choices, she can pay the taxes owed or she can deny earning income since there's no proof. I'd go with the second, but if she chooses to pay she'd entitled to a lot of write-offs for expenses incurred while doing business.

I doubt she'll be reported by someone who probably doesn't pay tax on the same type of income.

I used to get threats like that from an ex of mine. It really worried me, but I figured he had no proof. I mean my number could attach me to my ads, but there was no face pic and no way for anyone to say how much money I was making. I mean if shit does hit the fan and she ends up having to report it (and I doubt that will happen). She can always under report it. I'm sure any pushing that paper and reading that she's an escort is going to assume she's some low life junky trying to scrape by and if she said she made a $100 a week who is anyone to say any different.
No one has any way to prove how much she makes. It sounds like the guy is just butt hurt that the woman decided to go out on her own. I mean what's the point of paying someone else when you're doing all the work?

Voluntarily Reporting an income amount is fair. Pimp can try to say she didn't report, but if she simply reported a small amount of income as a chicken farmer, she'll be on record for paying cock raising tax.

As for the blackmale, that is a big no no. If they texted it, show it to LE. Don't submit to this terrorizing treatment.

If she does decide to declare the income, the bigger worry would be that if her gross is over 30k and she has no receipts she is liable for 3900 hst.

As far as I understand, she never declared "this money", only her real job income etc.

Thanks for all your answers :)

This is harassment plain and simple. It's illegal and she needs to document all contact with them then get in touch with our OPS sex worker liaison...

If the communication has been extensive she is being harassed, and the tax issue is not even a matter. Go and report them.

However, the only fact we have been told is that she has pissed someone off (who happens to be scum), and the person has threatened to report her for a fraud she has committed via ONE text message.

Its slimy, but I don't think one text communication in itself is harassment. And if nothing is expected in return for holding the threat, is it blackmail? We need a few more facts to find out if it goes beyond one text, and other threats are being made. If it does go beyond that do as Cat says. The tax issue becomes inconsequential.

The best thing is to talk to a lawyer. And I think a lawyer would agree that what is being done to her is tantamount to "blackmail"
which is a criminal offence. What's been done to her may also qualify as "criminal harassment" which is also a chargeable offence.
I would consider doing two things:
1) Do as CH says, namely pay your taxes
2) Contact a lawyer to see how she could use the legal system including the police to stop her tormentors.

She should just ignore him and change her phone number; he will do nothing. Going through the justice system is not a walk in the park and if the pimp has a good legal counsellor she could be in trouble too. Paying her taxes like any other citizen could be a good start and she will feel less stressed by potential similar situations in the future.

The duo I did the review about.

What I was told is that the guy is always inside the apartment. Behind a grey slide door. Which makes sense; because when I visited them last week, I could hear noises coming from that door, but the blonde one said it was just the TV she left on. The music was too loud, so I couldn't tell.

The bad review with the girls in the dump apartment? Got to ask, why are you getting involved in girl/pimp issues, with girls you don't know. Tell her to call the police if she is being threatened by a pimp. Don't worry about CRA unless she is living in a condo and driving a BMW. The cops have a hard time finding the girls who are willing to come forward, and love this stuff when the girls do come forward. Thinking she might be trying to suck you in to scam you somehow. Stay out of it.

Whops, edit, the review is on the pimps location, not the girl.
