In American football, there is a playing position called Quarter Back? What is the origin & why isn't it call Half-back, Full Back?

Why does the fullback line up in front of the halfback (as is usually the case- for blocking)? Should the two not switch names.
What if the Tight End in fact doesnt have one? i mean then what? Geez whats with this game anyway?
when i was younger i used to laugh at the official with "BJ" on his back...now i realize it means "back judge" its not that funny..ah hell who am i kidding i still laugh. BJ lmao

In the earliest days of American football, the backfield consisted of four players behind the linemen. The one farthest back from the line was called the fullback (fully back from the line). Two players were positioned halfway between the linemen and the fullback and were called halfbacks. The man closest to the line was positioned one quarter of the way between the linemen and the fullback and hence became the quarterback.
