British Ministry of Defense: “Extreme Attrition” in the Russian Military (msn.com)

The British Ministry of Defense’s daily update highlights “extreme attrition” of Russian forces.

According to the report, three successive commanders of one of Russia’s most prestigious airborne regiments have either resigned or been killed since February 2022. As recently as early September, the commander of the 247th Guards Airborne Regiment, Colonel Vasily Popov, was apparently killed in the heavily contested Orikhiv sector.

Just a few weeks earlier, in August 2023, his predecessor, Colonel Pyotr Popov, had apparently resigned his command. Independent Russian media claim that he acted in protest against the military’s failure to recover the bodies of Russian victims.

Shows grinding exercise of the military
Similarly, in the first weeks of the invasion, the then-commander of the 247th, Colonel Konstantin Zizevsky, was killed. According to the British Ministry of Defense, the experience of the 247th illustrates the “extreme attrition and high turnover” of Russian forces in action, even in relatively high ranks.

All I get out of articles like this is the unintentional acknowledgement that the touted counter-offensive has dissolved into a defensive stalemate, with the Ukrainians on the defensive.

In other words, Russia is holding its occupation.

It must be the Ukrainian military thinking that this is a 15 round boxing match, and they will be able turn it all around in around in the final round. However, it doesn't appear that Russia is running out of resources or political will (endurance) anytime soon. Maybe Ukraine should be regrouping and regaining strength instead of depleting itself (taking so many punches) in the short run.

Their firing of shells have dropped off to the point where lately Ukraine is firing more.
They have resorted to digging out T62 or T64 tanks and even T54/55 tanks
They have to resort of handing out heavily rusted rifles to new recruits
I haven't looked into it, but from what I hear today they are resorting to using WWII era trucks
The evidence is clear, Russia's cupboard is running near empty
OTOH the US still had butt tons of gear sitting in the desert and unlike Russian stuff, that stuff has been maintained, also the west has an economy what, 20 times larger?

But yeah, what you get from articles.
