What boggles my mind is that the thousands and thousands of highly trained analysts in all the think tanks in Washington DC could not foresee this. They are highly trained in warfare, foreign relations, politics, government affairs and other useful disciplines.

At the same time, it was crystal clear to a feeble minded individual as myself, with my best years behind me, and no training in these disciplines.

Did they not at all recognize that the Afghan Talibans were fighting for their country and hated invaders and occupiers that bomb and kill civilians and insurgents alike, while the western invaders and their mercenaries surely would go back home one day.

Etc.

The American empire is impotent.

Yes and no....

Armies fighting armies are one thing.

Armies fighting a population among a population... that has rarely been winnable. Ever.

for the 1st time in a long time, I agree with Biden. time to leave the shittiest shithole on earth. Afghans want sharia and they deserve sharia

if later on the Afgans train or host international terrorists, the US can pay a short visit and take care of them and also give some grief to the Taliban hosts, no need for (permanent) boots on the ground

I am more worried about those 20K refugees Trudeau wants to bring home. If only 1% of them harbor extremist views, then that is 200 terrorists in our cities. Then add the bigger percentage of anti-semites, the misogynists, those that believe in honor killings, things won't be pretty

If they harbored extremist views, would they have been helping us against the Talis?

they will pick 20K from refugee camps. I am not talking translators/ collaborators, these were much fewer. And since most were from Kandahar (which fell earlier) probably few of them will be coming

So once they start picking from refugee camps, it is a lottery, some would likely be good people, but some would be ISIS infiltrators

Judging by the pics and vids coming out of Afghanistan, it does appear the Taliban has massive popular support. (Sarcasm)

The Taliban obviously has more support than the Americans and their Installed government.

It has the support of everyone who matters there right now and their retainers and the common people go along with it.

Anyone westernized is anxious to get out, understandably.

You might have a point. The CAF was there over a decade ago and anyone who was helping them probably left already. Lots of people drifted across the border to Pakistan over the years.

Go look up the definition of "Convention refugee", Dutch.

Seriously. Then you'll know.

I think any educated woman in Ghan now has a valid refugee claim. Anyone who doesn't agree with fundamentalist Islam as well. Anyone who has written or said anything critical of Islam or the Taliban.

That's several thousand people, maybe more.
Seems like a perverse application of the concept of refugee when over 50% of the population of a country can fit within the definition.

They probably have a claim. Educated women certainly. Women will certainly be treated unequally in Ghan. But few are going to reach Canada in any event.

We will see. The Taliban has declared that girls will be continuing to go to shool and University.

We will see.

I am not going to gloat to say Biden is an idiot. It has already been established. What pisses me off is he blamed Trump. He over rode everyone of Trumps polices except this one! I am not saying Trumps plan was better, but it had rules. We will never know. As stated before he has been wrong on every foreign policy decision ever. Hell, he did not approve of the mission killing bin laden. Anyway, Butler started a thread saying they should have trained an army of women. I know, not possible? Anyway, who has the most to lose with Sharia law being imposed? Women! All the guys are muslim. If u are a guy and a muslim under sharia, you got it made, you have a sex slave wife. If she disobeys, a couple of bitch slaps then it is over, maybe if not convict her of cheating, and she gets stoned and you get a new sex slave. I think women would have put up a hell of a fight. Well we will never know. So sad for women, and you never hear from women in the West or the Left and sorry to say the right.

Your theory is good, but not realistic. Afghanistan is not likely any time soon to become Christian or Buddhist.

From BBC:

  1. Taliban militants give their first press conference, two days after completing their takeover of Afghanistan
  2. Women will enjoy rights according to sharia [Islamic law], spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid says
  3. He says there's an amnesty on all who have worked for foreign powers - "no harm will be done"
  4. The Taliban's top political leaders have landed back in Afghanistan from Qatar where they were headquartered
  5. Local reports say the streets of Kabul are quiet
  6. Militants are out in force manning checkpoints across the city
  7. Turkey says it is in talks with "all sides" in the Afghan conflict, including the Taliban
  8. Military flights evacuating diplomats and civilians have re-started at Kabul's airport

Their word is worth nothing as soon as some Iman has a revelation from the Koran that Allah requires it all to be done differently.

Actually in this case it is more who has all the weapons
The Taliban's support is based on fear.
Religious fanatics do not place any value on human life

How many reprisal killings do you think have taken place in the last couple of days
hundreds or thousands ?
