It seems that McKenna will not be in the race; McKenna:http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20060130.wmckenna0130/BNStory/National/
I understand Charest is a Tory federally, only carry the Liberal brand in the Province of Quebec against the Bloc.Hard Idle said:I'd vote for Brisson or Charest but I don't think it's a good time.
I hope not. Martin should remain active and hopefully become Finance Minister again, at which he was perhaps the best ever. But this guy just isn't a good front man - even Canadians won't vote for a guy who looks like Less Nessman's father!emvee said:Anyone else think Martin will change his mind and come back (a la Trudeau)??
I'd like Martin to become finanace minister again too. It was really his performance as finance minister in Chretien's gov't that gave him the necessary stature to run for the Liberal leadership in the first place. He is more suited to the finance minister's role where he can second guess himself and hold endless meetings until he gets it right. The PM has to make decisions very quickly. The position requires lots of political savvy. Chretien had that quality. Whether you approved of him or not, Chretien was politically agile, practical and canny. Martin is more your sitting duck type. Nice guy and a straight shooter but not really a leader.Hard Idle said:I hope not. The fact that such a blattantly poor campaigner could be chosen as leader probably contributed to the notion that the Liberal party is a place where internal connections and "paying your dues" come before all other considerations.
