Neighbourhoods in the area of CP sorting locations are getting annoyed at the incessant honking starting at 6 am. Every cause has supporters.I drove by a post office the other day where workers were out in the picket lines. Not one car honked for them. No one was showing them support. At least not while I was there and I was stuck at the light for a bit before driving past them.
With respect to CP losses, that's on management, not the carriers. The pricing model and overall system needs an overhaul. Sure they have given too much on pensions for grandfathered employees but there are multi-level arrangements at CP in an effort to correct so as grandfathered contracts literally die off, the cost model changes too.
CP can be profitable with the amount of parcel delivery they have which is far more lucrative than letterman. I wonder if the losses are not built in on purpose.
While I am not pro-union I do have the ability to empathize. You can't get everyone to agree to a strike unless the position is needed. Strike pay in this economy is dreadful and CP employees will not make up those losses.
My money is on the union backing down from employee pressure.
