I drove by a post office the other day where workers were out in the picket lines. Not one car honked for them. No one was showing them support. At least not while I was there and I was stuck at the light for a bit before driving past them.
Neighbourhoods in the area of CP sorting locations are getting annoyed at the incessant honking starting at 6 am. Every cause has supporters.

With respect to CP losses, that's on management, not the carriers. The pricing model and overall system needs an overhaul. Sure they have given too much on pensions for grandfathered employees but there are multi-level arrangements at CP in an effort to correct so as grandfathered contracts literally die off, the cost model changes too.

CP can be profitable with the amount of parcel delivery they have which is far more lucrative than letterman. I wonder if the losses are not built in on purpose.

While I am not pro-union I do have the ability to empathize. You can't get everyone to agree to a strike unless the position is needed. Strike pay in this economy is dreadful and CP employees will not make up those losses.

My money is on the union backing down from employee pressure.

On the news they said the strike might last into January 2025, or beyond
Meh. This strike is the last straw for me. I had already shifted the majority of my parcel shipments to other carriers back in 2018 (which were only slightly more expensive), and this seals the deal on the rest. And everything else is done via email or EFTs now.
Canada Post can piss right off.

I just hate that government stuff still comes via CP. come the new year, tax slips are going to be effected as well.

Enough is enough. Even if the strike is settled today the backlog is so great that snail-mailed Holiday cards and gifts are not likely to be delivered in time for Christmas.

Small businesses, many who depend on the holiday season for the bulk of their yearly profits, are being severely compromised.

But the CRA doesn't care. If a small enterprise uses Canada Post to mail in their current deductions at source to the CRA by December 15, they are being advised that the remittances must be delivered by hand to the CRA drop box in their area by December 15, or penalties and interest may ensue. The same goes for those people who are required to pay income tax instalments for 2025, due on Dec. 15, 2024, if they don't pay electronically.

Imho, if the strike isn't settled by December 31st it's time for the Canadian government to grow a set of balls and force binding arbitration...

A month-long Canada Post strike is set to end on Tuesday, after the federal labour relations board has ordered postal workers to return to work, the Crown corporation said.
“As a result, the CIRB has ordered employees to return to work and postal operations to begin to resume at 8 am local time on December 17, 2024.”
