Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Pontiac and Chevrolet mostly duplicated each other. Now they can cut the dealerships in half.

Cavalier/Sunfire
Vega/Astre
Chevette/Acadian

If Pontiac and Oldsmobile are gone, what are those dealerships going to sell now????

My first car was a Pontiac.....and I loved it, so this does make me a little sad!

Had to be done though.

If any one of the 'Big Three' produced a car that I liked, at a price that I could afford, and at a quality I required, I would have bought one.

The companies killed themselves, they should have realized it years ago when people started purchasing the competitions vehicles.

If I has the cash I would go out and buy an Impala. It is a decent car for $.

I can see them moving some of the popular models moving to Chevrolet or something like that, their are some models that were once let's say Chevrolet's and then Pontiac's or GMC's later on.

Maybe other manufacturers are in trouble because they build shitty products.

I wouldn't say that too loud around Oshawa or in close proximity to Buzz Hargrove.
Why not it's the truth....people want quality and reliability.

As long as I can remember the CAW has always talked about import quotas....If they built better cars they wouldn't have to worry!!!

Some imports are higher in price but some would rather buy the Japanese vehicle.

Alot would rather buy a Civic over a Cobalt, even though the Civic is more expensive. :p

When G.M. had 50% of the North American market they tried very hard to provide cradle to grave service for everyone of every financial state.

Things changed in the 70'2 and 80's when the bean counters took over , every division in GM produced the same vehicals on different lines all over North America, dozens of versions of the same car in different trim packages, made sense from an assembly line cost point of view but it took the soul out of the company.
Sad but true.
When GM was run by Car People we got 'The Judge' and liked minded cars.

But when the bean counters took over all the cars looked alike or like the Pontiac Aztek!

A name linked to Chief Pontiac, an American Indian chief who led an unsuccessful uprising against the British shortly after the French and Indian War.

Firstly... yes the auto-industry is going through a "correction", but so too are many things right now. This too shall pass.

Secondly, By "demise of the auto-industry" I assume you are referring to GM and Chrysler. If so... then Yes... I am! But I am not the root cause of the problem. Market dictates product innovation, and if GM and Chrysler are too fucking stupid to get their collective heads out of their asses and properly read the market trends, then how is this my fault.

I am just one of 100's of millions of consumers that choose superior design, reliability, and sustainability over the crap the "big 3" have been trying to force on us for decades.

I'll agree to everything you say except the 'superior design' part.

Japanese design, with some exceptions, is pretty butt ugly if you ask me. Even some Buicks and the new Cadillac CTS cars look far better than their japanese equivalents. Although, even in the design department, the Japs are rapidly gaining ground; just look at the new Nissan 370z coupe...

What is happening now to GM is something that should have happened 10-20 years ago. Instead of wasting money badge engineering cars to have 90+ models, they should have concentrated on making cars people want.

Had they dreamed up a car like the new Malibu a while back, they might still be in the running. Instead, it took a catastrophic event to get these idiots off their butts.

Except for the lost jobs, I don't have much pity for GM or anyone working for them. You produced crap cars for 30 years. You earned it.

I used to be a GM man.

My father bought GM.

My mother bought GM.

My siblings bought GM.

My grandparents only bought GM

When the car was on its last legs, you headed over to Queenston Chev-olds or John Bear Pontiac Buick. That's just the way it was. Everyone was happy because we felt that GMs were the best built, and the most stylish of cars on the road.

Not anymore.

All of my siblings and I now drive Japanese (Honda, Infiniti, Lexus) and BMW.

Why?

Because each and every one of us got majorly stung by GM Pieces of Shit. The GM dealers consistently treated each one of us like the enemy. One by one we went to the dark side and frankly, never looked back.

They could offer to sell me a Pontiac G8 at half its current cost and I wouldn't buy it. I will never ever ever ever buy another GM product as long as I live. (Other than a C2 Corvette, but that doesn't count.)
