so then solders should probably be making what 250-500K a year plus then? maybe a mill?
Don't you remember, Justin says that our veterans are asking for more than what the government can give them. I'm guessing that extends to active soldiers.

These are questions that torment men's and women's souls. Why? For example, why should someone make $330 million for hitting a little white ball? Why does my roofer charge me a minimum $500 just to do a little patch on my roof? Why?
Perspective plus supply and demand.

Why should you expect your roofer to come to your house so he can lose his shirt his time and not charge your the minimum to cover his overheads and expenses such as travel time, his wages and opportunity lost because its a small job. Why do you expect to take advantage of your poor roofer and have him struggle to make a living. Why not do it yourself, why not just hire someone off kijiji to do it for you. Why is it okay to slavedrive contractors you hire to do work around your house? Maybe you are looking in the wrong place with these questions and should start within and question your persepctives.

And an electrician risks being electrocuted, and a miner risks being buried alive, and a press operator risks losing a limb. Risk is just one part of the equation, and while it does justify higher wages, what is a fair rate is relative. I think it's already common perception that polices wages in Canada are too high, on average. The average police wage in America, which I personally feel presents MUCH greater risks to officers, is $24,000 a year lower than Canada. And that's after accounting for the exchange rate!
The U.S. system is a terrible system to use as a comparison.

The spectrum of training and pay is too broad.

You have agencies like the New Jersey State Police that pay more than Canadian agencies, and then you have backwoods Sheriff's offices where the Sheriff is elected and then hires his buddies as deputies, who do not have any training. Look at the level of corruption in some of the U.S. police forces and the number of unjustified shootings.

Canadian police forces look like incorruptible supermen in comparison.

The average salary in Toronto is just below $60,000. There is absolutely no logic why a public servant in the service of their communities should make more than 30% of the average. At present they almost make double the average.

Police are there to serve the public not the other way around.

More money will not get you better cops. That job is about people that care. If you make it about money you are going to get paycheck cops.

Yes its true sometimes they make way 2 much money for what they do, and others all the money jn the world will not be enough for what they have 2 do.

But at present they are already well compensated and an increase directly tied to the inflation rate is more than fair.

In a house somewhere
Agreed - all you nay sayers just imagine how it felt to discover this https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/dad-c...self-inflicted-gunshot-wound-police-1.4300790.

How can an animal harm their own little girl.

The majority of cops are good and run towards danger not away from danger like most people.
What does this have to do with anything ? The guy who does the autopsy probably hates doing it on this girl . Should she or he now get a few hundred k?
Crime is on the decline across the country. That's a fact. The reporting is crime has changed. Cops salaries are on the rise, along with benefits. We can't afford it. Other good programs are being sacrificed to pay cop salaries.

And living expenses are a lot higher in NYC as well
Which is why the vast majority of Toronto cops don't live in the city. If they chopped the salary and made it mandatory that they live in the city, how many would stay? How many would flock to other departments?

Manhattan is ridiculously expensive (except Lower East Side and Hell's Kitchen), we are talking Wall Street money.

I think most NYC cops live in New Jersey.
