I'd look into the legal aspects before you go any further. I'm no expert, but I believe any real-money game that take in a rake (say, to pay the dealer) is illegal, regardless of where it is. Home games are apparently fine so long as there's no rake. But even with no rake, running a real-money poker tournament out of a strip club could be illegal as the club may profit through drink/dance sales. I highly doubt any club will allow that.

I believe the 905 Lounge out in Pickering does do some blackjack occasionally, and provides free dances as prizes. They may have some legal workaround.

There is a 3 man poker tournament in Oshawa this Sunday. 50 dollars a player. All money paid out in prizes and for food. Check out Oshawa poker on Facebook for details.

Actually I was approached by a club that wanted me to run a poker game. We could do it tourney style with 1st and second place prizes etc

You can't hold any tournaments in clubs or bars because the place makes money off the players, which is illegal. Anywhere else as long as all money is paid out or spent on prizes or food then its OK. Also no rake can be taken either.

One time events are fine. A 'gaming house' is when it is regular and ongoing. Anyone can sit down and play poker as a one off anytime they like.

now..floating a lot of money around is asking for a lot of trouble in a lot of respects.

Sorry dude. But unless I'm in a very controlled atmosphere like a casino I don't play poker with strangers. Too much opportunity for trouble, bad losers, and cheating.

I've learned this the hard way over the years.

Interesting. Maybe the club has gotten special clearance to run a one-off event. Wonder how they swung that....

What'd be fun is a game of strip poker.
