Jokes aside, it was actually nice to see Harper relaxed and comfortable for once... sitting at the piano, in front of all those people, he almost seemed to be enjoying himself.
Kudos to the guy for getting up there in the first place. It won't win him any extra votes, but think of the backlash he would have suffered if he had sucked!

The only significance of the song choice was...getting by (in a minority government) with a little help from his friends.

Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds has nothing to do with LSD and never had. That is just a myth. In fact, the inspiration came from a classmate of Julian Lennons and a picture she drew. Her name was Lucy Vodden and she died recently of Lupus.Still that song isn't much different than if he did the Beatles LSD song, Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds!.....

I went through that 'Flower Power' era. At that time the Beatles themselves admitted to experimenting with the drugs of the day and LSD was one they admitted taking. While the Lucy Vodden story may be true, we all back then knew what they were singing about and it wasn't Lucy Vodden....
The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Janis Jopin, Jefferson Airplane were a few of the other major groups who had big hits dealing with drug usage back then.

Of course that could be very true but it doesn't discount the song could have a 'dual' meaning or other levels of interpretation.

Yes but it's not a Sir Paul McCartney song, it was written by John Lennon. Therefore, if Julian Lennon says it's about his classmate's drawing, I tend to believe him.
This reminds me of Jack Layton singing "Party for Sale or Rent" at the media roast 2-3-4 years ago. That was hilarious!
You may want to check the writing credit again: Lennon/McCartney. So, if the guy who co-wrote the song and spent 40+ years performing it says it was inspired by LSD, I'll take his word over that of a kid who was 3 when it was written. This is not to say that there is no truth to the story about the drawing, but there was an initial assertion by a poster that the song had nothing to do with LSD. That is clearly false.
