When I finally stopped to smoking last November I gained 12 pounds within 4 months and I was 152 pounds(almost 70kg) in March. No diet is working so I changed my diet to paleo. Now I exercising 5-6 times a week(40-50 minutes a day), swimming 2-3 times and I do hula hoop and kangoo jump while I watching TV.
I use just xylitol instead of sugar.(Expensive but worth it) I don't do the very strict paleo so I eat pasta or rice or a few cookies but max 2-3 times a week. I bake my own bread . Now I lost 15 pounds since March and I'm in good shape(138 pound=63kg and my BMI is 21) and I feel good. I don't want to lose more weight because my tits will be smaller then and I'm not a fan the six packs on women (and men either). You don't have to lose your weight very fast because it's coming back easily(jojo effect) but 3-4 pounds a month will be permanent.
So exercise and paleo are working together.:)

Try Stevia (now brand). 10 bucks lose form. I love stevia. I like it more than sugar for my coffee. Learned about Stevia way back in the day when I was in Brazil. Over there they don't use sugar, they use Stevia. I am glad it caught on in North America.

so everyone has their way of eating less using more calories. cut carbs! cut sugar! cut booze! exercise! ww! keto! paleo! as everyone knows, everything works. these are all tricks to allow u to eat less. exercising more helps and exercising is the only way to shape your body the way you want. but it's not essential. if u eat less than u lose, you'll lose weight. u can't stop it!

so how? that's always the hardest part. one simple way is to eat the same thing every day. eat enough that you're satisfied and nutritionally sound. do that for a week or so. make sure u maintain your current weight. that's your maintenance diet. then just drop some of it. if u drop 500 calories a day, and maintain the same awake time/lifestyle, you'll lose weight. maybe a couple of pounds the first week but then consistently a pound a week afterwards. if u stall, reduce more.

u can gain and lose weight at will using this technique. this is simple. if u want it, u can do it.

studies done on high protein diets where u can eat all the protein you want such as the aitkens diet have shown protein makes you feel full so while u eat all u want u do not want many calories and that is why it works

Weight Watchers

Its a classic for a reason. It works.

And over the years, this gold-standard weight-loss program that harnesses the power of group support to help motivate dieters has kept up with science, not to mention changing lifestyles. For this aspect, Weight Watchers earned the highest motivational marks (including several perfect scores) from our panel of experts, who also lauded the plans overall healthy weight-loss pace and exercise component.

Most noteworthy: Weight Watchers, while maintaining its meetings-based system, has added an online version for those dieters who, in the words of panelist Largeman-Roth, “arent into group hugs.”

Whats more, dieters following the program have flexibility. In late December the company launched its newest program, Momentum, which is designed to allow consumers to control their hunger and tailor Weight Watchers to fit their lifestyle. Momentum combines elements from previous food plans like Weight Watchers' famous points-based Flex Plan and the Core Plan. The Flex plan is packed with major education on making wise and healthy food choices and gets kudos for providing both motivation and a simple framework for success. The Core Plan focuses dieters on eating nutritious, satisfying foods—without counting calories.

The Weight Watchers program offers strategies that will work for every dieter. And the support specifically for men was a real bonus, as was the ability to get tasty, already-prepared (and points counted) meals at your local grocery store.

Hi Madonna,

miss you in chat (yes I know about the perb/merb thing but no tY) My mother died at a young age so I looked at diets to reduce heart attacks, diabetes and other ailments. Guess what? They are also great diets to lose weight.

Here is a link to a vid which was a series on PBS from Dr. Furhman.

Again, I know you did not ask for anti heart attack advice (but of course this is a huge cause of death in the world and contributes a great deal to having a lower quality of life.), but this will do that plus lose weight.

Here is a Ted Talk from one of the radicals in this field (by the way, former US president Clinton spoke of him on Letterman after his heart attack.)

Madonna, plenty of ways to skin the cat, it is just finding a balance between what is healthy and sustainable.

Good luck and by the way you still look great so don't worry too much.

Funny, but when I first heard of stevia I irrationally assumed that is was some sort of sugar cartel conspiracy to thwart its common usage. But after talking/reading I realized it is because lots of people don't like it.

Man, conspiracy theories are more fun. :)

I eat like a caveman. Paleo diet. Meat and Fresh fruits and vegtables potatoes and rice but no enriched white flour. I drink two cups (starbucks short size), black coffee or green tea daily. Try to go gluten free as much as possible. No dairy other than whey protein, which I am not using at the moment (kind of on fence about whey???). Udis Gluten free bread toasted is awesome with a quality peanut butter or tuna mix. Try and eat locally. I eat a lot of super foods as snacks (joji berries, mulberries, golden berries, chia snacks). Limit my fruit intake unless I am sharing with somebody (bannnas, pears, apples). I use vega one nutritional supplement daily. I mix with Almond milk or water mid day. I will also mix my vega one my with almond milk in morning and add some gluten free corn flakes (Natures path is a good brand) and berries. At least 3 egg whites (normally hard boiled) every day. Limit red meat intake. If I eat red meat it has to be a quality source. I eat pork maybe once a month if that.

I do eat out once daily because of my busy schedule . Its normally a larger meal even at mid day. Souvlaki dinner, quarter chicken with rice, fish with rice or potato. Steak or seafood. I eat a lot of Asian Cuisine. Canton style steamed fish or chicken, a lot of Chinese greens, or other healthy steamed choices on dim sum menu. Also, I eat Korean food 3-4 times a week.

Also, I use a muitl-vitamin twice daily. A high quality raw probitic (raw primal defense) and fish oil supplement ( you cant get enough omega fatty oils from eating fish even 3 times weekly).

Don't forget sex at least 3 times weekly.......twice on sundays! I hope this helps :D

Speaking from Expierience of losing almost 190 pounds in under two years. Losing weight is a mindset. First you need to be mentally ready to commit. It's different then the normal wishful thinking of id like to lose weight. Have some kind of a core reason that will keep you driven to stay on the right path.

Once you have that taken care. The next step is to take all the bad food in your home and throw it away. Yes there is a financial loss there, but later on you'll see you gained a lot more.

Now as for all these diet suggestions. The best one I've seen and agree with is that it's a lifestyle choice. All these other diets and fads are counter-productive as they form a dependency on the diet itself without letting to learn how to adjust your life into a healthy balance. Some of these diets work because their core message is still calories in and calories out. Atkins, south Beach, Bernstein they all at the end of the day put you on a low calorie diet. But it's not something you can sustain. Once you hit your goal you think the work is done but those programs didn't teach you to live normally.

The old adage of balance is still in effect. The basic 4 food groups is still in effect. What you need to do is find what works for you. You can have bread. Just limit it to a slice or two a day and keep it whole grain. You can have milk. Just make it 1% or skim. You can have fruit. Just keep it to small proportions and things like berries. You can have other proteins besides chicken. But make sure the protein is very lean.

The main thing is to keep trying. It's ok if you have a slip. Just remember that core reason why you started to keep you motivated. Also a cheat meal is fine. Just don't over do it and don't make it routine. You don't have to cheat every Saturday. Cause then your mind will change and all you'll be thinking about is when does Saturday arrive and you may overdo it.

Lastly. Download the MyFitnessPal ap. You can really see what you are putting in your mouth food wise and it tracks it daily so if you see patterns forming, you can adjust on the fly.

Good luck to you Madonna. I know how hard it can be. But it can be done.

I am not going to dig into science but what I did below worked for me:

1. Eat less than I burn calories
2. No process food and fast food
3. Eat whole grain food and drink water often
4. Do not combine fatty food with carb. For example, if you are eating steak, eat low calorie salad rather than potatoes
5. Eat un-salted un-roasted nuts for snack. No chips and no cookies.
6. Drink green tea

BOOBS!!!!
Hey

I used to weigh 310 and I was able to train down to 215. At 215 I was as weak as a new born. So I bulked back up to 235 and held there. Not being satisfied with my strength levels I've started powerlifting so I'm up to 250 again (less cardio and more lifting). Anyway I've done it.

So weight management isn't complex, its actually very simple as NiceShoes said above:

"Eat less than you burn"

That's it nothing more.

My basic Advice

1. EATING
- You must know how many calories you consume. Sorry there is really no other way. I use an app called MyNetDiary. I can use it from a web browser or my phone. Enter your food and count them calories.
- EAT WHAT YOU WANT IN MODERATION.
- Short term eat less than you burn. If all you eat is candy all day just eat less calories than you burn and you WILL lose weight. (Long term: candy all day probably isn't the best choice).

2. Exercise
- You should know how many calories you burn, again I use the mynetdiary app.
- Exercise 4 - 5 times a week.
- Intense is best, but SOMETHING is better than nothing
- find something you like
- If you are not the self motivated type (be honest), you have the money, and you love yourself :) a personal trainer can work wonders

Hope that helps.

It's not that hard.
Calories in vs Calories out.

Do you drink sugared sodas, coffee/tea with things in it other than coffee/tea, alcohol?

Exercise regularly.
Park away from the store, walk up a flight of stairs instead of the elevator.
Drink water.
When you think you're hungry, you're probably just thirsty, have a glass of water and wait 15 minutes.

Switch to milk easy 200 calories out of your diet, 73000 calories a year if you are already maintaining your weight that's roughly 20 pounds gone by next year.
