Great... are the stores going to give free bags now and staff bag our groceries?

Ever since this ban, the cashier stopped bagging... much more cost efficient
Plastic bags have been banned here in Montreal and stores give you NOTHING. They make you pay for cheap fabric reusable bags or regular reusable bags.

Nicer stores and some grocery stores give you paper bags.

Got no issue with paper bags, tho LCBO has got rid of them which pisses me off. And I am also old enough to remember when paper grocery bags were phased out in favour of plastic to “save the trees”.

I’m in favour of reducing unnecessary waste for sure. But if a customer wants to buy a few things at a store, I think the idea of banning bags (or charging $4-5 extra for one) is not right.
The LCBO paper bag thing was stupid, but they're likely desperate to find cost savings anywhere. After all, they have a big theft problem.

The silly thing about the fabtic "reuseable" bags today is that the plastic ones were also reuseable and were only 5 cents. Ask any Chinese family that's been hoarding and re-using plastic bags, tubs, etc forever :ROFLMAO:

Being required to bring my own bag to any store makes me feel like I’m living in a third world country.

It annoyed me when it first came in but now I've become accustomed to bringing in the foldable satchels which I find very simple to use and sometimes act as a basket for a quick pop-in and go. At first, I would intentionally use a different store logo as my little rebellion to no plastic bags but now I've matured. 😈

Why is this shit not being recycled? It's not my fault they lied to us when they started the recycling program.

And it has already been statistically shown, the plastic in the ocean comes from coastal regions mostly from third world countries.
The plastic used and thrown away from communities in the interior of countries don't tend to reach the ocean.
So, why is my land locked ass being made to suffer?

Oh right, because we elected a stupid Drama teacher.

Same thing with plastic straws. No turtles anywhere but gotta ban them to show our virtue.
It’s all pretty retarded.

They were discussing this on the radio today and it looks like Libs will take this to the Supreme Court

Some of the Chinese stores still gave you bags but they were transparent. The flea market also gives out bags.

Plastic bags were already going into the landfill when Trudeau was in fact still a drama teacher. I’m not a huge fan of the guy either, but many seem to want to pin all of their dissatisfaction in the world on him alone.

I don't mind bringing my own bag to the grocery store to be honest.

Whatever it takes to combat the garbage that litters our streets I'm in.

I look at old photos or films from say the 50's and see the streets and the first thing I notice is how clean they are. Except around newsstands that is. Wasn't any fast food in those days. Christ I see Tim hortons cups everywhere.

I actually agreed with banning single use plastics. In fact, I would have taken it to the max and banned ALL SINGLE USE PLASTICS, save an except medical devices.

This stuff is horrible and never breaks down and ends up in the oceans.

I cannot believe that the federal government doesn't have the right to ban plastics. I sincerely hope that this government and any successive government takes this argument all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary.

The only thing that's not "single use plastic" is a plastic shopping bag, first it's used to get grocery home and then it's used to throw out the garbage.

Most items in stores are wrapped in plastic, that's single use plastic. Good luck getting rid of that. Big business would never allow it.

I used to collect all my garbage bags and plastic straws and once a year would drive to Halifax and throw them in the Ocean but I don't do it anymore.

I suspect the Liberals had invested in companies that produced cloth bags. Trudeau’s net worth has gone up 97 million dollars since being elected. It had to come from somewhere….. bribes and insider trading sure does pay. Too bad all the Canadians suffer for it. If you do the research, it looks like the plastic bags were less harmful to the environment, but don’t let facts get in the way of profit.
