I always thought this was kinda stupid.
I use plastic grocery store bags to make garbage bags out of them, and so does probably half of Canada.
If plastic bags were banned I would just buy Glad garbage bags, which do the exact same thing and are also made of plastic.
So nothing really changes

I just use a plastic garbage can without a liner. I recycle and compost what doesn't go into the garbage so the garbage is fairly harmless. When I empty it, I put it in the bathtub and fill it with hot water and comet bleach powder and scrub it with a toilet brush. Then turn it upside down and let it drain into the toilet. No plastic bags or paper straws involved.

I find it stupid that we wrap things like cutlery, straws, toothpicks, vegetables and worse packaged goods with plastic. Even more when we wrap plastic items in paper. I know that some of this excessive packaging supposedly has to do with hygiene, but I still find it excessive and adds cost.

Great... are the stores going to give free bags now and staff bag our groceries?

Ever since this ban, the cashier stopped bagging... much more cost efficient

This is stupid alright.

Bought milk in plastic bags, lettuce wrapped in plastic, blueberries in a plastic container, Kraft singles each wrapped in plastic and a case of bottled water.

All these are ok to buy, but the bag is no good.

An hour or so down the QEW in the US, plastics straws, take-out containers, plastic bags etc, all in full use.

And plastic garbage bags. A much better solution would be better recycling efforts o items that are proven to pollute.

Can't say I've seen plastic garbage bags wrapped in plastic film. They're almost always in cardboard boxes that makes them easier to ship and put on store shelves.

Sorry, I meant using plastic garbage bags. Next thing you know, they might even ban plastic garbage bags.

Oh ok. The thing is that we don't really need plastic garbage bags since they brought in the green bins. I only use compostable bags (assuming they do anything) in my small kitchen green bin so it doesn't make a mess. Everything else goes straight to the blue or grey bins unbaggged. I know this won't work in apartments, but this will gradually change.

Who uses plastic condoms? Are they a thing? Single-use Plastic condoms are probably illegal with the ban. 🤪
I'm sure there are guys that tried using plastic wrap, bags, or food service gloves as condoms. Hope they didn't get their dick anywhere near the sawtooth edge on the plastic wrap box

Doesn't unbagged food scrape attract vermins?

Also, garbage collectors often spill food scraps on to the road.

One day, a long time ago at a slightly sketchy mp, the woman offered me some oral pleasure, and I agreed, she pulled out a loblaws bag and started to use it as a “condom” for the oral service. I put a quick stop to that and assured her her hand was far more preferable. (Just the rustling of the plastic bag alone would have killed my hardon).

Ya, I’ve ended up in some fucked up situations over the years….

But back on topic, tho I agree single use plastics are bad, banning them has a lot of other knock on consequences that need to be considered. Fact of the matter is, consumers can’t always be expected to bring their own bags when and wherever they shop.

She should have used No Frills bags because they are higher quality vs Loblaws or Walmart that tend to have holes or rip :ROFLMAO: After all, you're paying 5 cents a bag at No Frills.

I think we've gotten so used to plastic bags at stores that we can't fathon not using them. Yet we used paper bags in many stores and LCBO for decades. Or the cardboard box scraps at No Frills, Food Basics, etc. I'll always remember the Knob Hill Farms bins and I still have a few kicking around. The thing with grocery stores too is that you can take the cart directly to your car and that makes bags kind of unnecessary. We still have to get the groceries from the car to the house, but that's solveable by keeping a bin in the car. If it worked in the Knob Hill farms days, then it can still work today. It just takes some habit changes.

Obviously, a bin won't help as much if you don't have a car or take transit. I think people that walk or take transit to the store are less likely to forget to bring a bag. They will have to carry things with them and won't have a car to fall back on.

Have you never used a green bin before? You can line your small kitchen green bin with a bag. That will prevent food scraps, pet waste, etc. from spilling when the trunk empties your big green bin. You can even buy compostable bags for your kitchen green bin, but you can use any bag.

Got no issue with paper bags, tho LCBO has got rid of them which pisses me off. And I am also old enough to remember when paper grocery bags were phased out in favour of plastic to “save the trees”.

I’m in favour of reducing unnecessary waste for sure. But if a customer wants to buy a few things at a store, I think the idea of banning bags (or charging $4-5 extra for one) is not right.

Are they gonna bring back plastic straws? I love sucking on my soggy POS paper straw from Tim's.
