I got into this discussion the other day. Can you guys tell me what you would tip a delivery guy for a PIZZA.

Not dependant on whether she is 'good looking' or he 'was nice'. But USUALLY.......

Would it depend on order value...or is the service the same whether 1, 2 or three items are ordered....

SO The question is.

YOU ORDER a LARGE PIZZA, 20 WINGS FROM PIZZA PIZZA....some sauces on the side. ORDER IS $24.00.

WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS TIP ????

give the driver either the pizza or the wings

hand the driver 30 bucks and tell him or her to keep the change. If it were not worth 6 bucks to you, you would have piceked it up yourself.

Always keep a bucket of pennies handy, I'd give him two handfuls.

Most places already add a $2-$3 dollars delivery charge to the total cost of the order. I usually only give them 10% on top of that which I shouldn't considering you're already paying a delivery charge.

Like to stay in the 15% to 20% range when tipping.

But service is the deciding factor (ie how long till I get my order). I have tipped $0 several times waiting for Swiss Pigeon for over 90 minutes.

And before the flaming starts, I know its not the drivers fault, but I don't care. It's a company and drivers need to take the message back that customers aren't happy so that changes can be made. The driver can go deliver for someone else if they don't like their tips because the company is providing poor service.

In a restaurant setting the same thing happens but they can attach blame and take corrective action. If I order my steak rare (as I always do) and it comes out well done (which has happened) I tell the waiter. He takes the piece of shoeleather, slaps the chef with it, yells at him a few times (I have seen/heard this happen, it can be funny) brings out a rare steak and there is generally an apology from the manager with a complimentary dessert and coffee. So I tip the waiter more to reward him or her for their efforts.

Firstly, if there's a delivery charge, that factors into the tip. Personally, I'd hate to be a deliveryman for a company with delivery charges cuz my pocket would be taking the hit.

Secondly, I never order takeout. If I'm too lazy to pick it up myself, then I'm too lazy to order.

If your pizza arrives late it is your fault. I can imagine two drivers arrive at the pizza shop see your name and address on the bill attached to the pizza, immediatly a fight breaks out. It's mine, no it's mine.

Generally, 15%.

I hate the guys who don't have change, and you end up giving a "stripper-style" tip to frickin' pizza delivery guy.

I invite the delivery guy in to have a slice or whatever I am ordering. Then I call the operator back to complain and say there is all this missing food.

By my name you may have guessed I work in this industry . If you are a reasonable drive from the store $ 3 is reasonable . The delivery charge may go to the driver but many stores , usually chains , pocket this for themselves so you can ask on the phone to see if you should adjust your tip . Some other things you should consider when tipping are distance , weather , holidays , and spikes in gas prices that come right out of the drivers pocket .

Pizzaboo,

I used to think about doing it part-time just for fun and the wild stories.

Questions: How do you guys deal with people's dogs? Do you still have to deliver in snowstorms?

So you are telling me that people tip and then you give it to the store to keep? No way. I delivered pizza in school for a few months and I didn't tell anyone about my tips let alone leave them for someone else.

why would you tip the guy for doing his job, especially if you are paying a delivery charge? Don't the people who made it and took the order also deserve a tip?

Doesn't the owner of the pizza place also deserve a tip for making it possible for you to order pizza from his establishment?

I voted for $6. The difference between $6 and $3 to me is nothing, one song in the VIP is a month worth of pizza tips. If it means one time where he comes to me first when he is running late, it's worth it. And if he is happy to get a decent tip, all the better.

We deliver in every blizzard you could imagine. Customers complain on the phone that it took them 3 hours to drive home but cancel the food at the door because it was 40 minutes . Why we would be able to drive faster than they did escapes logic.

Dogs have chased my drivers right into traffic , eaten pizzas off the tables while the owner pays , and climbed into the drivers cars while they are at the door . The 100 Shepard stood up in the back of the small station wagon to see where he was going much to the surprise of the driver . Fortunately the driver loves dogs and knew this one so he turned around and brought him home . Other drivers would have crashed and ran screaming .

Tips drivers keep ( some stores tip pool among drivers but this is rare ) , delivery charges are already set on the bill so the store knows about them and may or may not give them to the driver . Drivers also get their full tip when done on VISA .
