From Nat Po
“The Tories are sponsoring and supporting a Senate private member’s bill that promises to require age verification for people to access pornography online.”

and
“The proposed law would require websites to verify users’ ages before they can access sexually explicit content, and it would penalize sites that don’t comply.

But it does not specify how that would be done.”
Sebastian Skamski, a spokesperson for Poilievre, said shortly after the leader’s remarks Wednesday that Conservatives do not support any measures that would allow the imposition of a digital ID or infringe on the privacy of adults and their freedom to access legal content online

But he supports a bill that would require age verification 🤔 how does that work? Sounds like political doublespeak trying to appease the Christian right with restricting access to porn while not infringing on privacy “of adults and their freedoms to access ‘legal’ content online” that would offend the more libertarian elements of his supporters.
Does he support measures to verify age to access “legal” (which is a definition that could shift, depending on the law of the party in power) access for adults, and if so, how does he propose to do this while protecting the privacy of those people?

Yes that's correct.
People making assumptions right now that you would need to provide ID which may or may not be the case.
Age verification could be done several ways and not just by uploading your ID (which can be faked anyway).
I believe the goal is to make it more difficult for kids to access it rather than just simply flashing a disclaimer on the screen.
Sure, but the devil is in the details. How can age of a user be verified, while preserving privacy. Not so easy, and I’ve not seen anyone of any party offer any remotely specific solution. Sure make it more difficult to access (shit, you know the ordeals we had to go though in my day to obtain a hard copy of Hustler or Swank magazine!) but how???

There is no theory, so far not one method can stop minors from accessing porn....asking ID to buy magazines and cigarettes didn't stop minors from getting them either.... all peepee did was said yes to the question and somehow the media came up with the conclusion of where it's going....it's laughable at this point....
There is a bill proposed by the senate (senators from multiple parties) that is real, and pollievre has endorsed it. So how is that laughable? It’s a reality, but with no specifics.

And to be totally fair and non partisan, the bill in question was conceived and endorsed by senators with multiple part affiliations, including “independent” senators, who largely are Liberal appointees.
But let’s face it, if pollievre is going to be the next PM (and like it or not, he probably is) it’s time to hear some specifics. He objects to a lot
of things, and attacks the current government at every opportunity. But it’s time to see a bit of a plan, rather than platitudes and statements of moral superiority/ outrage. We’ve had a lot of that already. How will he be different.

Why would he do that if he doesn't have to?..

What he is doing is working...People are tuning out Mr. Trudeau's rhetoric.

With to respect to the topic. “wtf”
For starters, do people really have such a poor concept of how little privacy there is anymore?

Secondly, if anyone has some anxiety over proof of age for places like PH or even here. wtf. And if anyone feels a little anxiety that their real identity here might be unveiled.wtf Maybe you shouldn’t do it in the first place.

For those of you with wives or girlfriends etc. do you know there’s these marvellous devices about the size of a looney called air tags? Can lead the owner to within two feet.

The one legit concern would be identity theft.

Are PeePee supporters really unable to tell the difference between clicking on 'I am over 18' and presenting proof of ID?

As predictable as a sick obsessed stalker, and bad smell or entitled child that thinks taking swings at bears, is a good idea.

Do you know any child with two grey cells can say sure. I’m a they, cat and over 18 with a click. I can identify as anything I want to be. It’s 2024 after all.

That must be the stupidest post of the year and you have 1 billion of them.

Maybe we should just allow 14 year olds to buy guns online too.

When Bill C36 came into effect, many thought it would just target pimps but it ended up targetting the whole industry. Terb.cc used to be Terb.ca, Terb moved their servers and maybe their whole operation to another country in response to Bill C36.

There is a real chance that Terb.cc will be required to verify age via identification or it will be blocked by Canadian ISPs. The counter to that is that we all have to get a VPN for ~$3-$5 a month.

Maybe you'd like to be the first to take your own advice and publish your real name and address here and show us all how its no big deal.
Why do conservatives keep voting for people that will take away their freedoms?

I’ve revealed far more about myself, than anyone here…………………..just saying………to think before you post. So tell us again who is hiding and who isn’t?

I’m also a target in the public so I don’t wear blue to the gym or stupid selfies on twit er and insta…that also tell people when you aren’t home or out of the country, and where you are and what your eating and who your with, and pics of your kids, and house and……Unlike you I’m sure.

But your terrified of giving your age away? You should spend some time in the real world Frank.

I’ve also mentioned in the masked protest thread I’m on other forums where real names are mandotory. And at the end of the day, do you think I am stupid enough not to do my homework and read people/rooms long before hand? So it’s not about SPs and terb, but more about people like you.

You know at he end of the day the Christian Nationalist hierarchy would like nothing better than a strict ban on all porn. Trump would jump on that, he never had much of a dick and lately he's got a lot less! I know, I know - Canada not the US but the impact would be just about world wide. How about a dystopian future where an old man and a child transmit porn images, one chip brain implant to another. Kind of like Fahrenheit 451...

You got all that from him answering "yes"? Lol!
Polly-liar was commenting on a Bill that he has not seen: ROTFLMAO!!

Trudeau charges that Poilievre hasn't seen the bill yet and instead of proposing serious legislation, the Conservatives are proposing that adults hand over their personal information to browse the web.

That may be true. Do you know a lot of bills have details leaked way before hand. Kinda like we even know about some things in budgets
Polly-liar was commenting on a Bill that he has not seen: ROTFLMAO!!

but oddly he know details? Nor did JT deny those details?

The bill introduced by Sen. Julie Miville-Dechene, a member of the Independent Senators Group, does not specify how age would be verified.

Options for enforcement include the creation of a digital government ID or the requirement that users scan their face using a webcam so that their approximate age can be determined - both methods the Tories say they disapprove of.

Given the Liberals track record for wokeness, it's not too hard to imagine what's in the bill.

Not quite the "gotcha" moment you have been digging for sadly.
