FEDERAL: NO MONEY FOR OMAR KHADR

FEDERAL

To Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:

Your government has given Omar Khadr a reported $10.5 million compensation package paid for by Canadian taxpayers.

This is offensive to many Canadians.

Mr. Khadr admitted to killing an American soldier while fighting with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan in 2002.

Canadians should not be forced to pay millions of dollars to a killer.

We the undersigned oppose the Government of Canada giving this compensation package to Omar Khadr.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is pushing for the federal government to revoke its $10.5-million settlement to Omar Khadr.

The federation says a petition it launched following Tuesday’s news that Canada will apologize to Khadr has gained more than 52,000 signatures.

“With over 52,000 names in under 48 hours, it is clear this issue has struck a nerve,” CTF federal director Aaron Wudrick said in a press release Thursday. “The notion of giving $10 million in taxpayer money to Khadr is so outrageous that many Canadians are simply beside themselves.”

The petition, posted online at Taxpayer.com, is addressed to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It says the payout to Khadr is “offensive” to Canadians.

“Mr.Khadr admitted to killing an American soldier while fighting with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan in 2002,” it reads. “Canadians should not be forced to pay millions of dollars to a killer.”

He has already been paid

How long before some of that money makes its way to some of his old buddies in al-Qaeda?
Somehow I do not think he has embraced the west, given the history

The Canadian taxpayer Federation might have more reason to petition against spending $18B on Canada's war in Afghanistan.

$10.5Million vs $18B (+++)

Canada paid a heavy price for its Afghan mission. One hundred and fifty-eight soldiers, two civilians, a diplomat and a journalist were killed. More than 1,800 Canadians were wounded. The war cost Ottawa at least $18-billion – and much more if the cost of caring for veterans and their families is included.

I think it is because they can differentiate between supporting terrorism, and fighting it.

Maybe the CTF can write to the Supreme Court as well and complain that they don't like the Canadian Charter of Rights...... LMFAO! What pathetic losers!

He has already been paid. . . .
One of the oldest tricks in the world for governments making controversial payments.

Recall the Obama Administration literally putting stacks of money on an aircraft so it could be flown out of the country before Congress could act to block the transfer.

Money plus an apology and no conditions attached to the use of the money. It pays to be a Canadian terrorist.

I hope folks remember this when it comes time to vote in the next federal election. This is shameful.

I sure will remember the actions of the conservatives.

They (and many people here) have no decency. Promoting the interests of the US over the rulings of the Supreme Court of Canada, while calling themselves patriots. Shameful!

You have been told 3 or 4 times already that he is not being paid because he was a "terrorist", but because he was held contrary to the Charter of Rights at Gitmo with the connivance of the Canadian government. I get more sense talking to Petrie the Great Dane than talking to you.

And let's spend a little time discussing the definition of "terrorist", shall we? It's not as though Khadr chucked a bomb into a shopping mall in Brampton. IIRC, he was in Afghanistan when the US military invaded that country and kicked out its government. Now, like it or not, many neutral people would consider the USA as an invading terrorist army and the Taliban as the rightful owners. Which makes Khadr just a guy sort of there and helping out.

Now you may not like the Taliban and I'm not crazy about them either. But that's a far cry from the fact situation of say, the Boston Marathon bombers - who are clearly terrorists.

The U.S. also "invaded" France in 1944 and kicked out its then government.

In the case of Afghanistan, I think only 2 or 3 countries recognized the Taliban as a legitimate government and most countries recognize Al Qaeda as a criminal terrorist group.

Yes lets remember the cause of the Canadian government being on the hook for this heinous act and a $10.5M lawsuit to follow is former prime minister Stephen Harper and his government, and let's remember this in the next election. I definitely know I will.
Also again this is going to be lost on a lot of thick headed people if this had gone through the SCC on a full trial he would have been give a lot more money probably around 2-4 X more, and this was a slam dunk case due to all the evidence that is why the current government had no option but to settle without trial. What the Canadian government did when he was in the custody of Americans was not only a horrible act but also against international law (which again will be lost on a lot of thick headed people).
You can spew all you want but those are facts.
