Pens vs Habs. Who you got?

GlavaMan

5 games is about right. If the Pens play physical like they did in their series with Ottawa, they may run the smallish Habs right out of the rink.

If I was a betting man, my money would be on the Pens, but I will be cheering for the Habs all the way. Hopefully longer than five games.
I have to agree with GlavaMan on the Habs' lack of size being a factor. A predominantly small team can take a pounding for only so long before they start to have their performance feel the impact.

A world of difference between Washington and Pittsburgh

Montreal got lucky in the first round, they drew a team which could not come together and whether the storm. I took Washington because they had the offence going, top offence in the NHL, good PP and Montreal did not seem to have an answer to who is the number one goalie. In fact it was only late in the series when Halak stepped up his game.

Pittsburgh and Sidney Crosby are a different story. They will not go away. Halak will have to up his game even more because the Pens will find a way to score.
Winning one of the first two games in Pittsburgh is a must because I am certain the Penguins will take one in Montreal. Going down 3-1 against Pittsburgh means 'game, set, match; see you next season'.

I think it is the end of the road for Montreal this time.
Penguins in five.

I'd like for a Canadian team to win but I seriously doubt that getting your ass kicked for90% the game and hoping your goalie can away 10 or 11 legitimate goals is a sound and repeatable formula for winning. Happen's once in a blue moon but no way this team gets out of the conference and probably doesn''t get past Pitsburgh.

Mind you I was monumentally unimpressed with the Penguins needing 8 1/2 periods to find the dagger and get rid of a team that wasn't half as good as they were.

Neither the Pens nor the Capitals can ever be a sure thing in a series because their success isn't founded on a 60 minute team effort. I have seen these teams win games in which they "bring it " for less than 10 minutes, jumping out to 5 goal leads or erasing 3 goal deficits.

It's a great equalizer to have - like a fighter with 1-punch KO power - but it's also a curse. A hot goalie and a couple of lucky bounces and calls and suddenly it's life & death.

Having said that, I think the Pens' will find away.

You are all quite convincing but I think it will be Montreal in 7. The Pens didn't play very well against Ottawa whcih did not put up anything like the fight Montreal did against Wash. In addition a hot goalie can make a huge difference in the playoffs.

Having said that, my opinion may constitute "the triumph of hope over experience", but I'm going to stand by anyway.

I want to say Montréal will win. I'm a huge Habs fan, so clearly I am biased that way.
But, logic tells me Pittsburgh in 6 is the best pick.

Oh, but I want to stop hearing about Montréal being a 'small' team. Yes, the front line players are small-er, but the team is on average around the league average in size and weight. The team is an average team, not above or below. It would behoove everyone (TERB members, media, etc.) to check the team's roster stats before making such sweeping statements.

the Pens have been frustratingly inconsistant all year round especially in the second half. That being said, they have won when they have had to so on that basis and given that Syd has taken it to a whole other level, Pens in 6.

I don't think the Canadiens have the offense to go deep. (They only had one scorer in the top 47 during the regular season and he was like number 27.)

Good comments, and I'm one of the guys who said they are small. I did not do any stat research, so I'll just assume you're right.
I guess what it comes down to is that Mtl's big guns up front are smaller in stature than the average. Gomez, Gionta and Camelleri are the guys who carry the bulk of the load up front, but they are on the small size and the beatings they take must wear them down.

Will the Habs get lucky twice??? That will be the key to this series.

Do you really think it was luck, As said earlier by myself and others, they were definitely hungrier as evident in most games, got some breaks with calls, posts, and injuries, as do ALL teams, then dug deeper to do what needed to be done. Oh ya, and got a hot goaltender at the right time. Can it happen twice, my heart says sure, but my head says doubt it. Go Habs!!!
