The discussion going on about automatic weapons is beyond stupid. There's simply no reason for them to be allowed in a civilian population.
You are absolutely correct, that is why posession of an automatic firearm is illegal in both the U.S. and Canada without a special license (rarely granted).

A couple well-aimed rounds into a psychopath's centre of mass from that armed guard will very likely stop him from killing kids.

Do you even think things through before posting?
There was a deputy sherriff on duty guarding the school during Columbine shooting. He exchanged fire with the killers. The fact is it doesn't work.

As pointed out it just means he'll be first to go. It really work well at Columbine and then consider the Gabby Gifford's shooting. She was surrounded by armed professional yet it was 30 seconds before someone 'tackled' him. One such professional said he didn't shoot in fear of hit someone else. another one said he almost did just that as result of misidentification.

Arguable the most protected man in the country has been killed how many times and Reagan almost became another.

I have yet to hear a parent from Newton agree with the move. That kind of tells you how bad it is. I suspect the NRA will start to back pedal soon.

No one is talking about stopping killing. At issue is the more modest goal of making it more difficult for your average Joe to wipe out a couple of dozen people in minutes.

Another knee jerk reaction opinion with no fact behind it. As the poster below me has added its nearly impossible to get an AUTOMATIC firearm in the states and impossible to get one here in canada. Also how many of these shootings have been done with a full auto? Answer: None. Once again we're in the world of buzz words that the people who use them don't even know what they mean. And for the record, with a full auto you can't hit shit!!! Yes, contrary to all the movies you've seen a full auto is pretty much useless when it comes to actually trying to shoot on target. Most bullets would end up in the ceiling thanks to the recoil.

10 minutes vs 30 seconds. Which one would you rather be a part of?

Who said anything about 10 minutes? I'd rather spend the time and energy stopping the wrong people from getting or keeping the wrong guns.

You can't legally buy them,in the US, but you can make reasonably easy changes to give you automatic fire. I hear the AR-15 sold in Canada has a modification on it that makes it near impossible to convert to auto. Full auto sustained fire is useless, but i'll let the military members teach you a thing about effectively firing them.

Im talking about the response time. 30 seconds vs 10 minutes, which one would you rather be a part of when someone is shooting?

The ar 15 sold in canada is identical to that of in the usa. Stop getting your information from cereal boxes.
And what is the military gonna teach me?
If you knew anything about firearms you'd understand why most soldiers use semi-auto or 3 round bursts. But you don't care about logic or FACTS, just fear mongering and misinformation.

Typical anti gun mentality. You're gonna focus on making changes to something that in the end will have no impact on the shootings, meanwhile ignoring things you can do to minimize the damage once it does occur.

I'm not anti gun, just anti-some guns and anti free for all ownership. Those changes have made differences in Canada, Britain and Australia, so the facts say differently. You put guns in schools , they'll go to malls, or churches, or public parks. Check out the ages of those who got shot in Washington.

Another shooting in Pennsylvania. This time at a rural church. 2 or 3 people dead. Time to arm churches?
