Guns kill people. period. Its too easy to obtain one in US making it waaay to dangerous around someone who snaps or loses their temper. I mean.... I don't have access to guns myself, but the thought of it scares me. I can be pretty temperamental and break things when I'm pissed off. xD heaven forbid there was a gun in my household ><
You can get your hands on a gun within a few hours in Canada. You just don't know how.

But your post just proves the point that guns don't kill people, people with poor impulse control do. (see relevant bits in bold above)

idiots (aka NRA) are talking about putting armed officers in every school... I say, how about putting an officer in every classroom. Like one or two armed offcers are actually going to stop kids from being killed by a psychopath.

A couple well-aimed rounds into a psychopath's centre of mass from that armed guard will very likely stop him from killing kids.

Do you even think things through before posting?

I think the sick fuck that wants to go on a rampage at a school will just make sure he shoots the armed guy first. It's a false sense of security designed to take people's attention away from the real problem.... number of guns in the US and relative easy access to guns.

If people are really intereste in self-defense, then sales of body-armour and helmets should skyrocket after an event like this, not more guns.

A trained, armed presence in schools is not ideal - in a perfest world, the psychologican issues that led to thig guy's lunacy and psychpoathy would have been identified and treated before he got his hands on assault weaponry. However, armed guards would have had a better chance of stopping this lunatic than the kindergarten teachers who were actually there.

In the states you already have ccw (be able to conceal carry for those of you who live under a rock). Why not take that a step further and get rid of the "gun free zone" for schools and allow teachers to conceal carry while at school. Now im not talking just give a handgun to any teacher and say here you go. Give them the same or BETTER training that police officers receive. Make them go through the same psychological screening as a police officer does. Don't make it mandatory, but instead on a volunteer basis and you don't get paid any extra for it. This eliminates any costs since we all know the usa is basically broke. The volunteering teacher pays for all the equipment and training necessary.

I believe there would be plenty of teachers who would take this opportunity to be able to protect their own lives as well as the kids lives. Take every step to prevent any added casualties in the event that the teacher actually does have to use a firearm, such as frangible ammunition.

Now this takes care of the fact that if a shooter wants to go into a school they'll shoot the armed person first such as a security guard or police officer since they don't know who the armed teacher is, or how many are really armed.

Second thing is make this known, broadcast it all over the news, inflate the numbers of the armed teachers if you have to since this doesn't seem to be a problem with any other news story out there today. Even if there is 1 armed teacher for every 10 schools make it sound like there really is 10 or 20 times that amount.

If some douche bag decides to go into a school and is stopped by one of these teachers in the future broadcast the story 24/7 just like they do when the shooter is successful. This will be the hardest thing to do for the news since historically stories where someone actually stops a criminal with a gun are nearly never broadcasted.
But do it, get the message across that if you go into a school and open fire you're gonna get shot.

I know what all you delusional anti gun people are thinking right now? More guns is the solution? Well do you have a better solution? Somehow some of you think you're gonna get rid of 300,000,000 guns from people who's right it is to own one. Civil war anyone?

Also, let me ask you when was the last time you heard a mass shooting happen at a police station? Cause i remember one story i read online where a dummy walked in and started shooting. He wounded one officer and then got sent packing to the next life with a well placed shot.

Also historically these lunatics shoot themselves the moment that they are faced with any sort of resistance. Win win, the teacher might not even have to take a single shot and lunatic might just off himself.

But what about that one retarded teacher who after all the training leaves a gun on the desk and little timmy picks it up and shoots everyone in the class you ask?

Its a chance you take, just like there's a dumb cop who once in a while leaves his handgun in a mcdonalds, these are the trade offs. We are human beings after all, and you can do things to minimize damage IF there is one champ who manages to pull this level of stupidity off. For example there are handguns out there with several safety mechanisms, as well as not loading a round into the chamber unless you're gonna use it. I know this might be too technical for some of you out there who are only able to understand key buzzwords such as "assault rile", but google it and see what it means. Or perhaps make the first round a dummy round if by some miracle some kid actually does get a hold of one of these things, manages to turn the safety off AND be able to load a bullet into the chamber. After the recoil of the first shot i dont know many kids who would continue to press the trigger, assuming its still in their hands.

Perfect solution? Doubtful, but so far better than any other suggestion ive read out there. But then again we can just lock the doors like premier mcdummy suggested, shit that should stop em. Why didnt he call obama and share his solution lol

Or we can make up more silly laws that will do absolutely nothing in the end to prevent these people, instead of facing the fact that maybe, just maybe we ought to think of what to do once the shooter gets into the school.

didn't your mama tell you to hold back judgements and look at all sides first? Do you really think a shooter with an assault rifle walking into a school will go "hey guard! i'm here to kill the kids.. get me if you can"? You can bet he'll pull out his gun and shoot the first kid in sight, much quicker than a guard even has times to react. What happens if the guard is in another location of the school? what happens if he's taking a shit that moment? idiots

valid solutions... Truth is the risks will always be there. There is no one absolute solution. However, unlike some idiots, we can clearly tell which options are better than some. No one is calling for the ban of all hand guns in US, just the assault rifles and making it harder for anyone to buy guns.

Perhaps assault rifle ban, difficulty for anyone to obtain guns, voluntary armed teachers and guards in school, treatment for the mentally ill etc, all in place will help curb the violence.

moron... the second amendment was written 200 or so years ago, at a time when they used musket guns that took a minute to load a single shot and neither were guns readily available to everyone and easy to purchase over the internet

heyyy doofus, there are people with poor impulse control all over the world but without guns they have time to cool down and not go ape shit.

congratulations to the media. it has been repeated time and time again that the extensive 24 hour coverage of a mass shootings encourages other copy cat numbnuts to strike within a week.
It is the same with TTC subway jumpers. Every time they reported one they had a bunch of copycats. Most week they have a jumper but no reports in the media.

It saves lives.

You watch to many shoot them up movies. A psychopath with his assault rifle ready and who knows he is going to be shooting at someone in a few seconds vs some retired cop or a wannabe cop completely relaxed with a holstered handgun. I wonder who gets the "rounds in the centre of mass"? Followed by killing the kids?

Next you will tell us being shot by the guard would be a deterrent and scare the psychopath away. After all it is not like he is planning on killing himself anyway.

Do you even think things through before posting?

Given that it (figuratively) all started with Cain and Able, why on earth is it to be expected that it will stop?

No one is talking about stopping killing. At issue is the more modest goal of making it more difficult for your average Joe to wipe out a couple of dozen people in minutes.

The discussion going on about automatic weapons is beyond stupid. There's simply no reason for them to be allowed in a civilian population.

The shooter probably has the advantage of surprise and superior firepower.
