Just saw on CBC news. 13 Chinese girls were coerced into living in “body shops”. Reached 13 girls.

what’s this about? is this place related to any place advertised on this site? I’m under general understanding and hope that every SP through this site is doing voluntarily.

I would love to know what the 13 sex workers whose lives are now probably in turmoil think.

Were they really held against their will if so, then throw the book at their "pimp" or were they just trying to earn money to send home and make a living here?

We are worlds apart. I thought it is sad that 13 women and probably more where trafficked since April 2022 because it took that long for police to investigate and arrests. Your thoughts are that the women were probably ok with it and sending money home.

I mean the cops took over a year to investigate, just to get it wrong??????? Really?????

I don't know and if they were being forced to do anything against their will and being forced to not leave, then I say arrest the pimps.

If the ladies are doing this by choice then it's a shame they are being used this way.

It just seems your first reaction to always believe a woman is not actually being harmed or at the very least you always open the door for doubt on a woman’s story. Not just with this but all threads relating to women abuse stories.

You are of the mind that abuse to a woman is wrong but you never seem to believe the women without countless amounts of evidence.

Which I understand but in this case there are 13 women and the investigation took over a year. So why do you resort to doubt automatically? What in the story would make you doubt or question in any way, the truth of it?

If the ladies themselves complained it's one thing but this was a neighbor in the building who originally complained which of course is to be expected.

" Laing said the investigation began in April of 2022 after Peel police received a community complaint regarding an illegal bawdy house operating out of a condo apartment in Mississauga. "

If the ladies say it voluntarily and ask for help without any pressure from an anti-trafficking guru, I'm all for charges but I worry sometimes the do-gooders who believe all prostitution is wrong, jump on it and it is instantly called trafficking. An Asian outfit just happens to be a low-hanging fruit and the ladies being immigrants can easily be intimidated by law enforcement.

Let me say it again though, any force or kidnapping, I'm all for charges.

As a reader, it seems like you always doubt “a woman’s story”. That is all I’m saying. Before I read your post I knew there would be doubt cast, as it is a pattern I have seen with you.

Don’t get me wrong - I get what you are saying and why. I understand the logical thinking of it but I just wonder if you would put all that thinking into it if it didn’t involve the abuse of women.

I know you are against abuse. I believe that wholeheartedly. I want that to be clear.

You are wrong! I've never ever abused a woman or would stand by if a woman was being abused. I don't care if it is a sex worker or a regular civi, I do not stand up for the abuser. Your point would be valid if any one of the ladies were quoted claiming they were abused and I still posted what I did, but this is NOT the case. In this instance, it happens to be Asian female escorts. I would say the same if it was Asian or any ethnic male escort because of the Anti Trafficking kick used to sometimes go after SWs who choose to want to work in the trade.

Let me ask you this? Many of the ladies are immigrants although it also states some are local. Now that they have lost this gig, if they choose to will they be allowed to go independent or join a mainstream agency without the task force being all over them and without fear of deportation??

If not, who are the abusers???

One more thing I will add, I DO NOT ever use any of these outfits. I am strickly a mainstream agency user, just in case you are thinking I am a pissed-off customer, NO I am NOT.

How exactly to do you think I can personally answer that question?

When you get it answered by the police, let me know and I will be happy to agree with you.

More often than not, anti traffickers go after traffickers. So I don’t get why the doubt but no point in dragging out anything. LOL

If they save the ladies from being forced into anything then I give the unit total props but if they just complicated the lives of the ladies who didn't want the "help", then I say BOOOOOOOO.....

What we can agree on is that no one deserves to be abused.

I get you and I do agree. IF police just "helped" women that didn't want it, then they are wrong. I am just not willing to cast doubt on the police for something like when there are 13 women involved and a year long investigation. On top of that, these women could have been simply "evicted" from the apartment/house and the owners charged with non trafficking related offences, so this leads me to believe the story as well. That is just me though.

Or did they become "trafficked " the moment cops opened the door and the vision of deportation became all too real?

The story does not go into any of the details of how these women were trafficked or coerced into sex work. The article does state that, fwiw, 12 of the 13 women were already in Canada when they connected with this organization with varying immigration statuses. Beyond that, though, it is not clear what the police are alleging took place. I would imagine that those details will come out eventually but for now it’s kinda hard to judge.

It is interesting to me that of those charged, 4 of the accused are women vs 1 man. It seems like in a lot of these human trafficking situations there are women very actively involved in recruiting younger women for these jobs: just like Ghislaine Maxwell…just like the operation Andrew Tate was running in Romania. These older women seem to play some sorta den mother’s role in gaining the trust of the women they are using.

Generally, I err on the side of believing women in these situations. Whether one believes the cops or not is a different question. Remember when the owner of the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft, got arrested at an Asian rub & tub in Miami? When the story came out the cops were proclaiming that they had busted a major human trafficking organization…but all of the charges were eventually dropped by the local prosecutors and nothing more came of it (I believe Kraft got off with a fine and nothing else).

So…I’ll wait for the facts on this to come out before making judgment one way or the other. I suspect that in this instance it will probably turn out that the cops did the right thing but we’ll see.

We will never know unless we find out what agency it was. Kinda like Moonwaiting, few days later all their girls started showing up elsewhere
