Your insurance company will definitely know, it is standard across the board for companies to pull an abstract prior to renewal. They probably didn't change your rates due to their underwriting rules.
I was convicted with my first speeding ticket last september (got it reduced in court from 20 km to 10 km with no pts). got my renewal last week and was happy to find out my insurance with PC financial has not changed, and my conviction record (serious/major/minor) still shows as zero. Maybe im just lucky, or my insurance company doesn't bother to check since I've always been accident/conviction free?

Can I do this before the court date?

go for a first appearance. the prosecutor will offer you no points and (maybe) a lesser dollar amount due to your clean record. without the points your insurance won't be affected. even if you get the points they are off your record in 2 years and the infraction is off in 3 years. don't even stress about it, i always have at least 1 infraction on my record at all times and i have never had my insurance go up or even change. if you have been clean for as long as you say your insurance company won't even know unless you tell them.

First appearance is before court. Go to the courthouse and ask for a first appearance. They will give you a date and time usually in a few months from now.

On the back of the ticket it gives the choice of early resolution meeting with a prosecutor, you're not forced to accept what he offers you. With this choice you still see a judge in case you want to beg
