The plea deal was a deal with the devil. But, keep in mind, the police didn't find those video tapes until afterwards. They needed her testimony to convict Bernardo. If they found the tapes before hand, they would both be in maximum security prison. She is a scary woman.

Also, if I recall correctly, Bernardo's lawyer got the tapes from the house AFTER the police did an extensive search (and missed them). He apparently did not watch them, and turned them over after the plea deal.

I agree with you. This is one of those things that keeps haunting the parents. But, I'm pretty sure this is just a formality, and even if they didn't participate, he has no chance of being let out.

You beat me to it. It's horrible putting the families through his every few years.

The brutal serial killer has a right to seek his freedom, no matter how offensive. And Bernardo can ask for it to be postponed as often as he’d like. And as many times as he’s likely to be turned down, he can always demand a new hearing, putting the families through this torture again and again.

Last time, Bernardo repeatedly rescheduled his hearings for unspecified reasons. If I recall, the original date was postponed 6 times. It was then supposed to be held next month before he just decided to put it off for a year.
