the hobby needs more capitalism
The woman interviewed on the 5th Estate said she had two stark choices: suffer in pain or take Oxycontin.

Query: Is there no cure for chronic pain?
Based on my experience, no. It can be controlled by medication and maybe lifestyle changes.

Here, there and everywhere.
I was on oxy for over 2 years before I had spinal surgery for 2 tumors that caused 4 herniated discs. I started with a perscribed 10mg daily dosage but quickly got to taking an average of 40mg per day. As a previous poster said, the dosage increases as you get used to the drug and it takes more to get rid of the pain.

So I had the surgery, which fixed my spine an eliminated all of my pain, but sent me into extreme withdrawl symptoms quitting cold turkey. Depression, anxiety and severe mood swings. Addicted and didn't even know it!

I took about three months to recover and get beck to real life. I guess I am lucky that surgery fixed my pain but that is certainly not true for everyone, as most chronic pain has no cure. I have much empathy for those who must choose between the two evils.

I love oxy!
I'm starting to think the same thing! Just my script increased to 20mg twice daily and have been eating percs like their smarties for the past 3 1/2 weeks. :fear::crazy:

My doc recently prescribed Percoset for my pain which i found out from the pharmacist, is the same as Oxycodone. It works really well on the pain and i am not addicted to them.......at least not yet.

Thats how I feel. I went from being miserable and in bed to being able to work and function noramlly with the meds. If/when the pain diminishes I doubt I will have much issue getting back to enjoying my life to it's fullest.

Just curious, when was the last time you took a dump?

Anytime I've had to resort to Oxy' for pain, never been anywhere near 20mg, I have to take something for the serious constipation.

20 mg 'twice' daily and you're popping them like smarties, wtf. It's clear you are of the class of mensa/mental midget that thinks, if 2 are good 4 must be twice as good.

Good Grief!

You're calling him a mental midget? LOL!

He is talking about TWO different pills. Not popping 20mg Oxy's like smarties.

He started with Percets and ate them like smarties. Then went to 20 mg Oxycontin.

The common Percocet dose is 5mg per 325mg of acetaminophen, the highest is 10mg per 325mg

Oxycodone comes in many strengths up to an 80mg extended release dose.

Whatever HIS pain is,it is COMPLETELY irrevelant to YOUR pain and your drug requirements.

I have had kidney stones that required nothing. Some I took Advil. Some I took a couple 5/325 Percocets for a day. Another time I took 8 of them in a day, when that didn't work I took (prescribed) morphine tablets and they didn't even touch the pain. I ended up in hospital for a day on a direct IV drip of morphine until the little fucking grain of sand passed!!!
You are reading more than is in the posts.

You might want to update you knowledge as both Percs and Oxys are available in higher doses than 10 mg and 80 mg; 20 mg and 160 mg respectively. Oxy is also available at lower doses like 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg.

My main point was not the pain level, as they do differ, but the side effect of severe constipation.

I've been told by more than one medical professional that my pain threshold is quite high, as is my tolerance for meds and it has to be mentioned when being treated by medical help.

You really do try too hard.

It's about time they changed the formula! Crack and oxy's are a real problem where i am from and especially in the downtown area. I knew a lot of people that injected it... I thought it was so stupid and disgusting. These people slept on the street or were very transient. I saw one do it with a dirty needle a spoon, their own spit and a cigarette filter they found on the ground... I see these people at the methadone clinic, begging for changes, in lineat the soup kitchen, selling their bodies on celina.... So yeah , it about f***ing time. It sucks too, because im the kind of person who doesnt take pills but when i do, i really need it. So when i go to the doctors, im pretty much denied anything but t3's by ethical doctors.... But my friend with and obviously pill addicted/crackhead mother can go in and get heavy pain killers for , getting hit in the head... Or claiming she fell down the stairs.... And me with a horrible toothache and an appointment with a specialist a month and a half down the road, has to see doctor after doctor for t3's and 53 equivalents. I was taking so much of that stuff i thought it would kill me. Even when i told the doctors my concerns and that it wasnt working very few of them gave me anything better.... But these losers who abuse, snort, inject, trade, sell and give them to their younger family members.... Somehow have access to the stuff. Go figure.... When i am in serious pain, i want to know im going to be taken care of.... Not treated like a junkie before i even get my hands on the stuff. For me, it really is adding insult to injury.

Your tying Ethic to doctors who readily offer more than T3 is interesting in that it's as much the ethic of the patience. Approximately one third of the population get little or no relief from Tylonal type meds, requiring much stronger pain killers for simple relief, burt must alway keep an eye on the addictive qualities of the same meds. If the doctor has a history with the patient, it's not hard to spot abuse, burt if you have patients who regularly use walk-ins, it falls on the dispensing industry to keep the eye on abuse. Unfortunately they don't compare records. I have private medical coverage and unless I want to pay full price for anything, not covering it by my policy at much less of a price, everything I take is recorded. When I've gone on extended trips I have to make special arrangements to have more than a certain amounts dispensed at one time. They also won't cover much of an over lap.

Using a stool softner 1 tab a day combined with eating less becasue I have been less active. Lots of fibre and fruit as usual so no change there really. I did have some bowel issues before doc switched me to the oxyneo. The time realase of the oxyneo is great but the percs are still needed for fast acting pain or to cut through pain. I was reffering to percs when i was saying i was popping them like smarties. I was joking btw. I am taking this injury serious because from doing my research and reading in some forums what I have been feeling is just the tip of the iceburg in terms of pain. I don't want to end up on any worse (ie. unable to walk). Being up and on my feet and able to do light duties is probably the only thing keeping me sane right now.

Fair enough, so I take back the mensa comment. Unfortunately I have seen acquaintances eating them like candies and pay the price later. My doctor told me when we were discussing them for my treatments that his reading of me was that I didn't have an addictive mentality and he would be surprised if I did develop one at the level and time frame he was expecting. They sure were effective, yet I knew at half the daily intake I could comfortable drive or do physical labour, occasionally feeling enough discomfort to tell my body, 'don't do that jerk', but if the full dose was taken forget driving, handling power tools, or climbing ladders so I'd have to sit back and enjoy the buzz.

So you were wrong in assuming that he was eating oxy's like smarties?

As I said you were.... as usual!
No, all he did was give more details. He didn't seem to get upset at the misunderstanding.

You're still trying too hard. Suck back a reload or you're going to bust a blood vessel someday.

Have you done your homework on the doses for Oxy' and Percs yet?

How's your Spanish lisp coming along these days?

Actually 'as usual' would infer more often that not and anyone using both sides of their brain knows thats not the case.
