Just a matter of time - if he stays healthy. A few more years to go - records are meant to be broken. Hate to see that one go from WG99 though.
yip, OV is a great player. However Im not an OV fan. I hope he falls short of Gretzky's goals record.
He’s only won 1 Cup, though. I‘ve heard others on The Fan describe his career as a “great hockey card”- ie. great stats but limited play off success. Fairly or otherwise, “chips” are always taken into consideration.
I never saw a player any happier and celebrating more with the cup than he did.
For a highly gifted goal scorer he is not afraid of playing a hard hitting style of game.
I am sure Gretzky will be one of the first people to congratulate him if he breaks the record.

No, because he's been quiet about what's going on in Canada, but speaks up about the war in Ukraine, political puppet.

I dare say that he's less of a puppet to his heritage than Ovechkin is a political puppet for Putin.

I'm not but I think that it's a valid question.
You don't like Gretzky's approach to the war in Ukraine such that it lowers your opinion of him, but you're cool enough with Ovechkin's stance such that he is uplifted in your eyes.
What is the difference aside from which side they take?
I felt the same about Ovi, especially when it was his name and Crosby's in any conversation and it always will be Crosby for me.
But over the past couple of years I started to like him a bit more, maybe because he seems more humble? If that's possible?

I'd rank Bossy and Mario as the two best goal scorers of all time and probably lean more on Mario as the best.

If you look at assists, you'll find that Gretzky would still be the all time NHL scoring leader

I was never Gretzky's biggest fan because I wasn't (and still not) an Oilers fan, but the guy did put up numbers that no one else will ever reach.

Matthews has 302 goals in 482 games. That's .627 goals per game.
That would put him ahead of Bure.
