I knew a few people who used those boards and ended up having bad luck years and years after that. It's like a dark cloud was always over them. The myth is ( for those who believe in this) is that if you contact someone who hasn't crossed over ( like a lost soul wondering the earth), they may bring unwanted problems to you and sometimes even evil. I grew up with all this. My mother was a psychic and she told me never to go near those things.
This above statement is pretty true. A one hour documentry could be made on this type of subject but it is best not to. The reason being there will be idiots who will try this and cause havoc. Messing with the spirit world is not for the faint fo heart. Think of it like heart surgery. IT takes the right mind, spirit, attitute and many other things.

Now what makes me knowledgable. Well I was born in south america in a country where if you are not in with metaphysical/witchcraft, religion you could be a victim of stupidty/envy. You could be on your own and have someone protecting you spiritually but if you have no one then you could be in for disaster. So this is practice very commonly I been in involved in some of them but only to save my spirit and body. Cuba has plenty of witches/warlocks.

But be careful some are fakes. How do you know if you have been curse there are many ways to find out, one is you go to a doctor constanly for ailments. And you wiwi/peepee don't work anymore or no desire for sex. There are many other symptons but it takes self analysis to find out.

As for what Alexa mention it is best to honour/commerate the dead on their aneversary. Go to their funural, and and bless them with peace, and after a year specially if they are family members.

Do you mean one of the users is moving it?

I believe in things along these lines, but when you have this toy made by Mattel or Hasboro, well I think all possible contact with spirits gets cut off on the factory assembly line.

BTW, nice find on that link Garrett. It makes complete sense.

I've played with a Ouija board a few times in the past - call me crazy but they are legit. I asked questions that only I knew the answers to, and they told me the correct stuff every time. Freaky shit I tell ya.

And yes, it is not the best of ideas to mess around with them. From my understanding, when you start with the Ouija, you're inviting a spirit in to talk to you through the board and the weird thing is that you're supposed to ask the spirit to close the session. (i.e. "can we go now??" ) If it says no, then you have to keep going otherwise the spirit can stay in the house.

Again, call me crazy, but a friend of mine back in high school used to mess around with this BIG time and his house was frickin messed up/haunted I tell ya. Some freaky shit happened there... boy do I have stories of his house. now I'm getting the goose bumps....
Um . . . and so you suddenly stop telling? Well . . . what kind of fricken messed up/haunted stuff we talking about that happened there? Tell us the stories of his house, dammnit!

And as for me. I gotta say that if you do become a witness of proof of the spirit world. I would say that's a blessing or a good thing because then you have evidence and acknowledgement that the afterlife exists and that we do have souls and we are more than just flesh and blood. That all the beliefs about an afterlife and life after death is true. And all the beliefs of heaven is most likely true. That there is more to us after we pass on.

Its better than knowing that we're just flesh and blood and that when we're buried we dont just become recycled into nothingness, in the dirt, without a soul or anything to show for all these 100 years we strived, learned, grew and became unique as a person and all the deeds we done. It all means something. We're more than flesh and blood and more than dirt.

I'm bumping this thread because this is the most interesting subject I've read about in this terb forum for like a year now...lets keep it alive. It actually made me think during my entire 8 hour shift at work today.

And with a 100 library debt barring me from borrowing books - I don't get enough intellectual stimulation. I dont come in contact with enough intellectually stimulating materials - aside from the look-alike celebrity model magazines like Cosmopolitan and Bazaar :( which discuss nothing but makeup ideas, tips and the latest health trends.

And the video game magazines are all wrapped in protective plastic to keep you from peeking ...grrr bastards!!!

And I'm getting tired of reading about the war in Iraq and Bush, which have dominated the newspapers front page for over five years from now.

The spirit world........

Spinoza, a Jewish / Dutch rationalist philosopher (1632-1677) once said "I see no evidence for the existence of a God". If he were alive today, I'm sure he would say the same thing about "spirits" and paranormal phenomenon. Like flying saucers, the popularity of the “paranormal” waxes and wanes in people's imaginations over generations, largely driven by the media. At the moment such thinking is again in vogue, unfortunately at the expense of objective critical thinking.

The truth is, it is often more “fun” to believe in such things as ghosts and goblins because it makes for great stories around a campfire. However, If you have a look at the September issue of Scientific American (1991) you will find an article on who believes in what. As it turns out, the higher up you go in the National Academy of Science, the fewer “believers” you will find. At the Nobel Laureate level in science, you find virtually no one who believes in God and I would assume ghosts and / or goblins. This relationship has held since 1916 when the last study of this kind was conducted.

I am not a Nobel Prize winner in science, but I tend to agree with Spinoza. As yet I have never seen a shred of credible evidence to support the notion of a God or spirits that are purportedly contacted through ouija boards and mediums.

Have you actually read any of these stories on this thread? Some of them, including mine, show that there is most definitely something more to this ouiji board thing.

I’m probably the biggest skeptic when it comes to this paranormal stuff. I’m a highly technical, analytical thinker and I dismiss all this guff too.

However, to actually experience a ouiji board, to feel the pointer move even though everyone swears they didn’t move it. It seems to come to life. Then for the ouiji to get every answer correct that only one person knew who was in the room but wasn’t participating. There’s no other way to explain that.

There’s no explanation for the behavior and abilities of a ouiji other than some mysterious power in the room that can read minds and animate the pointer.

I only remember one story.

When I was a kid I had a bunch of my friends over at my house and I wasn't one of the people using the board. Anyway, I told one of my friends to go into the kitchen and phone my friend to tell him to come over, so he goes and does it. When we hear him talking to someone, we asked the board who answered the phone. The board went to the letter D. I yelled over at my friend and asked him who answered, he told me it was our buddys sister who answered. His sisters name was Diana. None of the people using the board knew that. After I told them her name, we all decided that we should stop playing with the board.

Did this in my teens with 4 friends. Strangely it only worked with 1 friend and myself, and no other combination of people could make it work. Had many strange connections, but we finally got spooked after a few months and ceased doing it. We got so proficient at it that the pointer moved even with our fingers slightly above it but not touching it. Years later, I dated a girl who wanted to do it, so after much pleading by her to get a board, we went to some spook shop on St.Clair and bought one. The guys behind the counter laughed as we were buying it. I asked what was so funny, and the guy said we'll be back in a few days. I asked why, and he said we'll be needing an exorcism. We did use it, but had no luck...then threw the thing in the garbage.

Hi All. Yes I have read a number of anecdotes on the Board and I have in fact played extesively with ouija boards, ESP cards and divining rods years ago when I was doing my Masters in Experimental Psychology. I too observed a number of interesting and at times "spooky" things during these sessions. However, under close scrutiny, I would still argue that there is no credible evidence to support the notion that ESP exists, that there are spirits in the netherworld or that ouija boards can predict or answer anything beyond chance levels.

Have you ever wondered that if anyone could "see" the future, why don't they get rich predicting the price of bonds or gold. I hardly think that the psychics who set up shop and charge people for their"services" could argue that they are not interested in making money...............

Its easy to be a skeptic and say there's no credible evidence, etc. For those who say that, how about coming up with a credible reason as to how this phenomena happens. Especially someone like yourself who has experienced it. And just what does your 'close scrutiny' consist of. You either must deny that these events never happened (calling everyone who has experienced it a bullshitter) or admit that there are unexplained forces at work, whatever they may be. I'm open to suggestion as to a credible or rational explanation, but so far I've not heard one. One things for sure, the board's results aren't based on chance or conincidence.

Maybe it was that 1 friend they were only interested in communicating with. Maybe that 1 friend in your teens was the only one they liked and didn't care to communicate with any other. Maybe he had some kind of paranormal gift.

tired the ouiji board as a teen.. with a group of friends...we all kept blaming each other for moving the thing...who knows..I went to school with a girl who's parents swore they got her name from a ouiji board. Her name... Orisha. I'm still undecided...hoax?...or not?

That would be a valid assumption, except that he couldn't get a connection with anyone else except me. So it was only him and I who could get results.
