I disagree.

I've been critical of Cumberbatch for being an ass kisser especially concerning Harvey Weinsten, yet his acting has never been called into question.

Phil Burbank (Cumberbatch) is one fucked up dude, he hates Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst) because she is just as fucked in the head as he is. He hides his neurosis by being the best cowboy possible while humiliating Rose and her son Peter. He has the winning hand as long as he can maintain his super tough guy image - which he can't. Cumberbatch did it all masterfully, it's a slow film, he kept me watching.

Never seen Black Mass.

I hated him in The Imitation Game. Not because his acting was bad, he allowed Allan Turing's life to be turned into a soap opera by Harvey Weinstein. When I wrote my review, Cumberbitches wanted my liver on a stick.

Weinstein was a bully foremost, which is why he was so succesfull...but he nearlly bit off more than he could chew!

James Gandolfini made three films with Brad Pitt: True Romance, The Mexican, Killing them Softly. If he wanted to turn Harvey Weinstein into a tomato can, who could have stopped him.

Bella Thorne hasn't transitioned from YA to serious actor yet, but she is sexy as hell! If anyone can get her over it's Melissa Leo, you know you're a great actor when you age and the roles continue to come in. When she was in Homicide: Life on the Streets, she was almost as sexy as Bella Thorne.

Of course, how else do you explain Julia Roberts winning Best Actress over Ellen Burstyn for Requiem for a Dream. Or Born on the 4th July winning Best Picture, it's an abortion of a film.

Due to streaming services a film like CODA doesn't get into theaters. In the past I could have reserved a place in the Varsity Theater's VIP Lounge, eating spezzatini and drinking Barolo while watching the film. I'm not signing up to Apple +, not enough content to pay for itself.

In 1989, Oliver Stone won Best Director for "Born on the 4th of July" but it did not win Best Picture, "Driving Miss Daisy" did. So it supports your assessment of another Oliver Stone soapbox sermon.
