Toronto police say they have seen a rise in crimes targeting retail spaces and some of it appears to be organized.

“Organized retail crime poses significant safety risks to both store employees and consumers and it leads to the sale of both stolen and counterfeit goods,”

price gouging and low wages are the cause

I see brazen theft at the LCBO regularly. Dudes just stroll in, fill duffle bags or wheel carts with booze and walk right out. Staff do nothing and don't even call the Police.
I have seen customers scold LCBO staff for doing nothing. But in typical Unionized replies they say that they are not allowed to interfere. Ridiculous.

When you are poor and struggling because of crazy cost of living it does not give a fuck if the lleading party is right or left.

No girl has ever planned to do porn. No people has ever planned to loot and steal.
and what has the gov't done so far to combat the crazy cost of living? budget hasn't balanced yet...

Organized Retail Crime, the movie Emily The Criminal with Aubrey Plaza is a must-watch.

The article mentions baby formula as one of the items.

Frankly, I don't care. Businesses report record breaking profits while regular folk struggle to pay rent. Housing is unaffordable. If corporations won't price things reasonably and the governments can't legislate protections from price gouging, the only other options are people going hungry (including babies going hungry) or people resorting to crime, whether that's individuals or, as this report shows, organized crime stealing items in bulk and re-selling it cheaper.

Either society's rules protect its people or people will protect themselves by breaking those rules.

It is not worth getting a bottle to the head if you try to stop these theiving thugs.

There are certain items that store management know are stolen more often then others. Things like gloves, socks, in retail stores. In grocery store thieves will take cheese and meat.

In Canada there have been a few thieving mobs that have descended on stores and cleaned them out, but not as many as in the US. I was recently in a big box hardware store and the tools were not locked up in cages like they are in the states.

It's not just big corporate stores that are getting robbed. It's also small stores on the corner owned by regular folk eking out a living.

Quite a slippery slope argument.

Soon enough, it won't just be stores.... more and more homes will be broken into... yours might be targeted next because you have more than the robbers. That makes you evil.

Decent argument for private gun ownership though.

So a business that makes profit because of making smart decisions should be penalized because La'veon didn't.
Your baby going hungry is your problem not mine.

My problem with the current state of affairs in Canada is that our systems are de-motivating to those who work hard and behave morally, and instead encourage or are lenient towards bad behavior, like thievery, laziness and corruption.

Won’t dispute that. :)
Nor does Canada seem to put as much effort and $$ into the Right side of the scales as we do the Left side.

Could also make the argument in the US, it’s the opposite. They put way more effort and $$ onto the right plate.

Neither seems to be working. Though statistics will show it’s getting worse here, than there.

In the US, it feels more disparate, than one-side leaning. There's been a real delineation of states into blue and red, left and right, where the priorities are diverging. Certainly makes for some tension on the Federal front!
Canada has a little of that too with Alberta and Saskatchewan, but feels like as a whole that you're right...weighted on the left side of the scale.
