So many great choices and a very difficult decision with no wrong answer as it is based on personal musical preferences - but my vote goes to Mark Knopfler as well.

He is my choice for his versatility and the sheer understated brilliance of his guitar playing. His range goes from blue grass and country (check out his duets with Chet Atkins) through mellow rock to flat out rock and roll.

one poster said there were no wrong answers...i agree.......there are dozens of great guitarists.............this guy here, i got several of his albums and repeat listenings never get stale and besides some of you guys may become fans of this under the radar guy...BTW. rest in peace Albert

Saw Albert live in Montreal in a smallish venue just a few years before he passed. Played in a weird open tuning (open F-minor) on his self-customized Tele with a capo mid-way up the neck. His tone and phrasing were incredible! Also had a super-long cord and walked right through the audience playing his ass off!

Yes! Great video, the highlight for me is Imelda May at 36:40 what a great version of that song. Super strong vocals against super strong guitar.

can't help but think that there is a sort of rip off going on with the "purple" bit. Another mention of SRV, he is doing his best Hendrix, as well.
