that big article posted by onthe bottom spent most of it's time discussing a very distorted scenario. Not counting payroll taxes? Isn't that how the middle and lower class pays tax? What about fuel tax? In Canada , what about the HST? The full picture stats would be drastically different than the distorted view that article focused on. 0.1% of the population pays 80 % of tax? That is a joke.

The U.S. also has a larger percentage of the population living in rural areas (other than in small towns).
If you think that explains away why the US is 25th in internet access, right behind Romania it is further proof your mentor JAJA has really scrambled what's left of your fried brains!.....:D

Well it must have changed in the last year RLD, otherwise I certainly know a great many liars and overly optimistic people.
Ancedotal evidence is lovely.

My understanding of the larger picture is that in the last decade or so, the rich have gotten very rich, and the middle class and working classes have been stagnent or losing ground. That does not sound like the American dream to me.

why not raise taxes on the rich?...take the money invest heavily on infrastructure, education and welfare...bring the middle class back up again , and maybe the rich will have new ways to make more of their money, from the ever improving population...doesn't it scare americans when all the scientists, doctors and computer engineers in the US come from korea, china and india? why is that?

In changing the nuance of what you write I now agree with the above where I could not before.

I can't understand it either.

One guy on Pierce Morgan a few weeks ago, worth hundreds of millions, if not billions, said he's fine with paying the increased tax rate.
The reason being, he looked at it as an investment and if it helps the economy and country going, prosperity for those who with not as much money will mean they'll go out and buy his products and it becomes cyclical. (obviously).

It seems that the GOP are used to the status quo and are incredibly selfish by nature.

their attitude that "american socciety"should have "survival of the fittest" structure is slowly killing the country's best resource....it's people!....what a shame..

IT used to be, but it is no more.

The numbers tell us that America is now a place for the very rich to get a lot richer and for everyone else to suffer.
The numbers don't tell us that at all, the numbers tell us that the middle has made very modest increases to income, the top 20% great advances while mobility has stayed high.....

Not a joke at all, payroll taxes almost fund entitlements (which it stated in that article), fuel taxes almost fund infrastructure - even in these areas the middle is not pulling it's weight.

LMAO!!!!!

Fuzzy numbers from FAUX???
Your fuzzy numbers run counter to all credible sources that point and show how the middle class and poor have only LOST ground over the last 20-30 years!....

In this time frame wealth has been redistributed upwards to the rich as they waged class warfare on those less entitled....

The middle DID that before YOU sent their jobs, by the millions, to those commies you pal around with!....

What ad hominum attack?? I would never do that to an old friend like you. I meant no insult by calling you a reactionary, as a matter of fact, I think it is an accurate characterization, and I thought you would be proud of that. You are against progressive taxation, against universal health care and you want to reduce general welfare programs. A marxist you are not.
