Things must be wonderful in your world. Everything black and white. They passed it by reconcilliation with the House bill. The Republicans didn't want to play ball, which Obama should have realized before, but I've come to the conclusion that he is a bit naive. With Lieberman the Democrats barely had 60 votes before Kennedy died. To call him a political chameleon would be kind. Now they certainly don't have 60 votes, but what does that tell you? What have the Republicans done or proposed? Explain the mass of secret holds on appointments and legislation for no reason.
When JFK was elected President, there were many who suspected it was tainted. Eisenhower and Dirksen both believed that votes were fixed in Illinois and Texas. I suspect they were correct. Kennedy barely won, and yet his appointments by and large were not challenged. They sailed through. Obama won by a very clear majority. Fair and square, and yet Republicans have set up roadblocks from the beginning, on legislation, and on many appointments for no reason whatsoever. This is their strategy, nothing else.
