Non SLR digital cameras

B

burt-oh-my!

Seems pretty good.

What is amazing is how kids can handle technology these days, almost instinctively. I have been laboriously working through the manual to learn how to use the thing. My son had some friends over the other night and I let one of them look at the camera. He was probably 17. WITHOUT ANY manual he was pushing buttons, going to onscren menus, etc and before I knew it he was showing me how to take panoramas, slow motion, high speed video.

It is amazing, and our gen will be left in the dust. I think it's all about exposure to the tech. 2 books I would recommend are "growing up digital and grown up digital" Your local torrent might provide the pdfs at no cost or check your local book store. The good news is, the current gen will be left in the dust and so on.............. til the end of time. I think we should hold on to the current and try to understand the future. A computer and the internet are just tools/media

Is the new Olympus E-PL1 worth considering? How does it compare to the Canon S90 or G11?
I’m not sure what to make of the Olympus E-PL1 ( Pen) . It seems like Olympus created a unique and interesting camera. But it seems like it’s positioned somewhere between a P&S and a DSLR. It’s too big to be a good P&S and it’s not versatile enough to be a good DSLR, besides it’s a little on the pricey side. Also, no built-in flash. The viewfinder that fits on the hot-shoe seemed kinda silly to me.
On the plus side, you can swap lenses.

I would tend to lean towards the S90 or the G11 depending on what you want. I have the S90 and it’s a kick-ass P&S.

It was designed to be a "junior" DSLR, same as the Panasonic GF1 (retail price $929 or $999). The Panasonic is terrible.

I should have bought the Canon S90 instead of the much more expensive Panasonic GF 1.

My Canon S90 is a great camera but my g/f was always borrowing it. I fgured she needs a decent PS camera of her own. I decided to get her this for her b/day. :

The Nikon S1000PJ is the world’s first camera with a built in projector. I got it for $220 +tax at Henry's. I heard it's being cleared out and replaced by the S1100PJ which has 40% more projector brightness. The S1100PJ is going to sell for $340. It seems that my camera has descent projector brightness and I don't want to pay $120 more for the newer one.

It seems to me like an interesting and useful gimmick. What do you think?
