agree, at this stage in his career, Subban is nowhere near the same class as other past winners.

A complete disgrace to see this gutless punk win the same trophy that has Bobby Orr's name on it!
Please, have you ever watched him play. Ya he runs his mouth from time to time (something he has toned down a lot this year, that will come with maturity - only 23) but he was by far the best Habs play this year, and honestly, probably the best D man. If you even watched him on Sportsnet as a commentator, he was terrific, and all the sportscasters loved him. He's gonna be a great players for many years to come.

No Toronto Maple Leaf has ever won the Norris (Randy Carlyle won as a Penguin). Why?
Scott Niedermayer won the Norris Trophy as a New Jersey Devil.
What's your point?

Was Scott Niedermayer ever a Toronto Maple Leaf either as player or coach? Just thought it is odd that no Toronto Maple Leaf has ever won the Norris while playing as a Leaf when every other original 6 teams have had at least one winner.

Scott Niedermayer was selected with the 3rd overall pick (originally Toronto's pick) acquired by New Jersey in exchange for Tom Kurvers.
One might think that had Toronto held onto the pick, they might have selected Niedermayer, and Jose Bautista would never have gotten hurt in a Home Run Derby.

Yes I watched him play. Should not have won the Norris, not this season anyway.

Does not matter whether he is the best D-man on his team. Certainly does not matter(as far as the Norris goes) what he did off the ice behind a desk. Who cares whether or not any sportscaster likes him.

The Norris goes to the defenseman who has the best all-round ability at the position throughout the season.
You can honestly say there was no one better at the position in the NHL in this 2013 season ?

Ovechkin gets the Hart(NHL MVP) puts in half of a half season and gets the Hart ? I do not know about that.

Kane of the Hawks deserves it more in my opinion.

I guess Dougie getting the Selke Trophy is the only Leaf to win one of the major awards in 59 years ...
That is probably right. I think the last Leaf to win the scoring title was back in the 1930's. Yet, I think the Hockey HOF has more Leafs than from any other team. (Costanza will probably correct me if I'm wrong. That's why we have him around.)

Was the awards and big party cancelled because of the short season? Let me tell you, an email from the league going around saying "Soandso just won this awesome award" is really anti climactic. Shame, it was always a fun enough party and TV to tune into.

IMHO, the 4 most important trophies are:
1) best goalie
2) best defenseman
3) MVP
4) scoring champ
It's been almost 60 years since the Leafs had a MVP and even longer since we had a scoring champ.
