Seven years after politicians signed the Paris agreement, it's interesting that UN Secretary General António Guterres says the report shows "a litany of broken climate promises" and "a file of shame cataloging the empty pledges that put us firmly on track towards an unlivable world."

That doesn't sound good. I guess it's safe to conclude the Paris agreement was a total failure.

It's often said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That's something the UN might consider after more than 30 years of global warming gabfests.

Meanwhile, the Guardian newspaper in the U.K. fears the news media are paying more attention to the war in Ukraine and economic turmoil.

Assuming he's right, it is beyond mysterious how the U.S. decision led other world leaders - including Justin Trudeau -- to lie about what they were doing.

One thing is clear. Countries that claimed to be reducing emissions when all they were actually doing was outsourcing energy production to Russia have definitely produced "catastrophic" results.

It is clear that countries have been cheating and lying which is certainly unfortunate. the US had been and can be a world leader again. I obviously cannot prove it but I do believe that had the US stayed in and actually carried out its promises much, although not all, of the world would have followed. When the US repudiates this type of thing it makes it more difficult for some other countries to adhere. Even US compliance without any other country following would have made an absolute difference.
