Who am I?

As a College Junior, I finished second in Heisman Trophy voting. I was encouraged by my coach to enter the NFL Draft after that season. " This is the first time I have told anybody who has not graduated that I felt they ought to leave.", the coach was quoted as saying.

I was the first overall selection in the following year's NFL Draft. I signed a seven-year, $19.2 million deal which included a $7.125 million signing bonus, which at the time was an NFL record contract for a rookie.

On my third carry of my first preseason game, I tore a knee ligament, and missed the entire season. I also missed two other complete seasons because of injuries to parts of my body above the waist. I played in only 59 games, (14 starts), in seven NFL seasons during a ten year span, and I rushed for more yards in my final College season than I did in my entire NFL career.

Two Heisman Trophy winners not named Bo Jackson played professionally in a different 'Big 4' North American team sport, (ie: NHL, NBA or MLB).

Name either or both.

tml correctly identified Charlie Ward.

Correct!

Carter played College ball at Penn State, under Joe Paterno.

Nope.

Tim Tebow never made it to "The Show". He had a .163 batting average for the 2019 AAA Syracuse Mets of the International League, his highest level from four seasons of minor league baseball.

The question specifies NHL, NBA or MLB. There are multiple Heisman Trophy winners who have played in the CFL, but it's not a 'Big 4' team sport.

He holds the NFL record for most games played by a Canadian-born player.

What's his name?

Playing AAA is still professional baseball but I get what you're asking. I don't know the answer it was likely from long before my time.

I did specify NHL, NBA and MLB in the question, in addition to football. The Heisman Trophy has been awarded since 1935. Some of that period is before your time, and mine, but not necessarily before the time of everyone reading the post. The other guy played while NHL, NBA and MLB all existed.

2000 Heisman winner Chris Weinke played minor league baseball for six seasons in the Blue Jays' farm system before attending College, but he never played at the Major League level, either.
