Yes - you can abduct your own child. The mother most likely has full custody, the father visitation rights and court ordered to have the child back in the mothers possession at a stipulated time, in this case, it was 6pm. Which is also why you can't take your child out of the country without the other parents signature if you have shared custody.

Regardless, I don't appreciate being scared shitless at midnight on my cell phone either!
But he did not abduct his own child
He was supposed to return the child at 6PM and failed to do so

News reports showing he MURDERED his own child then fled
This stupid Amber Alert is
A) 5 hours too late
B) used under false pretenses

They recovered the girls body in the Brampton home so cops knew she was dead and instead used this false amber alert to help catch him
Still hope he rots in prison but total bs use of the amber alert system

?
I posted above it was a murder not a kidnapping

Amber Alert is for MISSING children, NOT catching a childs murderer

And quite frankly I could care less one way or the other

IF I ever saw someone in an Amber Alert situation all the cops are doing is pissing us off enough that we would just look the other way

I will admit that the alarm blasted me out of a sound sleep. In my haze I thought the house was on fire initially, then I thought it was one electronic gizmo or another protesting something. When the second one hit I knew what it was.

The whole thing is an incredible tragedy. I saw the photo of the young girl this morning and I have a hard time with the thought that her own father killed her. I'm glad the cops caught him.

The first one, I got on my watch so it didn't alarm. I don't know if my ringer on my phone was off.

The second on, I was in bed just falling asleep, it scared the shit out of me. And when it happened I was pissed. I was being woken up because she was found.

It was not until this morning I saw she passed away at the hands of her father. I cried and still feel like a shithead.

And as I type this two more amber alerts for the same thing just now on my phone and watch. I just turned my phone on.

I feel like a shithead this morning also. I was pist when I was woken up, and like everyone else, thought it was a waste to be woken up for a domestic dispute. Was more pist when i was woken up a second time to be told that it was cancel.

This morning I cried also when I found out she had been murder. Here i was safe in my bed, and this little girl was killed by the one person that is supposed to give his life to protect her.

I feel really really bad about my selfishness, and swear I will never ever think the way I did last night. It's horrible what happen.

Condolences to the family (except the father) and friends of the little girl.

I was watching the Leafs on TV when the alert first sounded. Ok, fair enough. But, the alert kept repeating itself every 3 seconds. This incident was happening in Brampton, I live nowhere near Brampton so nothing I can do. Is there a way to turn the alert off after the 3rd time?

Then when the alert was cancelled, they kept repeating that the alert was cancelled every 3 seconds and was still repeating the cancellation when the Leaf game ended.

I was also watching the Leafs game last night when I got the alerts but it didn't keep repeating. I got the first one stating that a girl was missing and then the second saying that the Amber alert had been cancelled because the girl had been "located". Then I was confused as to why CP24 was not saying that and still posting the car's description and license plate. Something seemed off.

Very, very sad. :(

With the iphone the Ring/silent switch at the top left kept the alerts silent. However this also silences everything like calls and text. I usually have it on silent all day long anyways and only communicate when I am available and mostly through texts. There should be a way in notification settings to isolate and turn off the sounds completely just for certain notifications.

I can’t even imagine how horrible this is.

Why did it take them 5 fucking hours to issue this alert?

All this is very sad...

This is what they release so far...

The girl was supposed to be celebrating her birthday with her father Roopesh Rajkumar, police said, but was not returned to the custody of her mother by the agreed upon time.

Police say Roopesh Rajkumar had made comments to the child’s mother indicating that he planned to do harm to himself and his daughter, which prompted her to contact police.

“She received information which obviously set off her alarms which is why she attended the division,” Const. Danny Marttini told reporters on Friday morning. “She (the mother) came in already fully concerned saying ‘This is what he is saying to me, I am concerned for the wellbeing of my daughter and I need some help. Obviously our investigators took action right away.”

Marttini said that investigators asked Ontario Provincial Police to issue an Amber Alert after their initial attempts at locating the girl proved unsuccessful.

That alert was issued at around 11:30 p.m., but within an hour, Riya Rajkumar had been found dead in a basement apartment at a residence in the Queen Street and Highway 410 area of Brampton, where the suspect resided.

Roopesh Rajkumar was arrested in a high-risk takedown a short time later, after a motorist saw his vehicle on Highway 11 near Orillia and called 911.

He was held overnight at the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police but was transferred into the custody of Peel Regional Police early Friday morning.

Marttini said that charges have not yet been filed because investigators will need to meet with a Crown attorney to discuss the “level of charges.”

In the meantime, she said that forensic investigators are combing for evidence at the apartment where the body of the child was located.

“We are looking at an active scene inside the residence so our forensics have to go in there and process it. They will be taking photographs, they will be collecting pieces of evidence, everything we need to make sure we have all the information about what occurred in that residence,” she said.

Victim was Grade 5 student at Mississauga school

I was a Jerk last night, and feel like shit now.

Police received 911 calls about timing of Amber Alert

The Amber Alert for Riya Rajkumar was sent out to mobile devices through Canada’s new mobile emergency alert system.

In a message posted to Twitter on Friday morning, Peel Regional Police said that they received numerous 911 calls complaining about the timing of the alert.

Peel police, however, pointed out that they were able to locate the suspect “as a direct result of someone receiving the alert,” proving that “the system works.”

Speaking with CP24 on Friday morning, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said that anyone complaining about being awoken by an Amber Alert “is being a jerk.”

“If there was even a remote chance that a late night text would provide a clue that would have saved an 11-year-olds life then thank goodness we have the Amber Alert system and anyone complaining frankly is being a jerk,” he said. “Imagine this was a member of your family. Imagine this 11-year-old was your niece or your daughter.”

Brown wasn’t the only one to speak out about complaints regarding the Amber Alert on Friday morning.

Jennifer Neville-Lake, whose three children and father were killed in a drunk driving crash in Vaughan in 2015, took to Twitter to express her dismay.

“I remember very well that sick feeling of dread when my kids were late getting dropped off and I couldn’t get a hold of my parents to find out why. The fear and crying. The screaming. I would have woken up everyone to find them,” she said.

I heard on CP24 a bit earlier that a glitch in the system meant some people got repetitive messages for multiple hours. I was concerned that the cancellation message would still be there when I turned the TV on this morning.

I don’t seem to get these messages. Don’t know why. I don’t see any option to disable them on my phone. Odd.
