There was a thread, maybe several months ago, on how to change your Netflix subscription so that the content matches American content levels. (The Canadian version of Netflix has far fewer movies.) I can't find that thread;can anyone provide a link? Thanks.

Dunno about the thread but one way to do it is to use this DNS service:

http://www.unblock-us.com/

It's a free trial for only a week though then you have to pay 5 bucks a month. I'm in the free trial stage and I can attest to the fact that it does actually work.

This seem to be the general consensus, but in reality the amount of content is only slightly higher on the US site. I don't know where this whole idea of Canadian netflix being so inferior to the American version even started. Most of the people who tell you that the American version has far more movies have never actually done a side-by-side comparison. There are probably over a thousand movies on netflix Canada. How many do you need? Let's say there are 1500 on the US site, I guarantee you wouldn't be interested in watching all of them. Just enjoy what we have here, it's hardly worth the effort.

i looked at the cdn netflix and there was literally nothing of interest. however, another quick glance at http://netflixcanadavsusa.blogspot.ca/ tells me there isn't much available in the us either that interests me.
That may be the case for you, but there is something like 10x the number of titles on US netflix than the Canadian one. And, the US titles are recognizable, successful movies. Canada gets all the weirdo ones; US is like walking down the aisle at Blockbuster. That may not appeal to everyone, but the numbers are what they are, and the US version is the way to go.

I use a Surfeasy thumb drive. Its an IP masker. For a One-time investment of $50 and so far as the internet is concerned I am American (or Dutch or Gambian or whatever I need to be). Works great.

The CRTC would like to thank you for your co-operation and hope you continue to enjoy their high quality programming such as The Littlest Hobo, Tommy Hunter and Littlest Mosque on Prairie. Now for the rest of us who do like choice I highly recommend that unblock us site, it's only 5 bucks a month, very easy to install, there is a Youtube tutorial how to do it and you can use it on your computer, PS3 or phone, it's just a case of switching the DNS numbers. Now not only does it open up the US Netflix but other nations as well, for example the Brazilian one has every James Bond film ever made up to Quantum of Solace.

I use this site to compare and see what movie is on which country's Netflix www.moreflicks.com and go back to unblockus and just simply switch the country in the drop down bar, very easy, convenient and opens up all sorts of entertainment also like the online BBC Iplayer and ITV sites available only to UK viewers. I been doing this for about 3 years now and think it's great value for what you get.

I can't find the original thread but I did follow its advice and download mediahint from mediahint.com and it gave me access to US Netflix. (it was free to download)

Interesting...seems like it only works for browsers though? Do you watch stuff on your computer? I use an apple tv, not sure if this would work for that...

The US site definitely has much more content available. I changed the DNS entries on my PS3 and received the American feed free of charge.
Be carful how much you watch on Netflix though. They only charge $8 a month but I used it constantly since there is nothing of value on regular television anymore and my bandwidth use went way over my limit.
Internet provider charged me an extra $80. I called and was informed that my area does not have any unlimited access plans. Therefore I canceled my Netflix subscription, but not before viewing every episode of Monk, which is not available on the Canadian Netflix.

For Apple tv, it's almost similar to PS3. You just need to change your location to USA and change your DNS. Check the video, its a step by step. It works for me.

As far as for PC or Mac, I use http://www.hotspotshield.com/, you can either purchase it or use the free version with ads(little annoying in my opinion). I'm a Mac user, it works perfect, heard few complains about how it doesn't work as well on Windows. try the free version first.

If Rogers is your ISP, they charge $10/month for unlimited bandwidth. I believe Bell started that too.
