Wasn't it Netflix that killed your friendly neighborhood mom and pop video store?
Aha. My fiends in production have all been commenting how strangely quiet things have gotten, even for the usually slack winter season. But if NetFlix was busily negotiating to monopolize all the big Grade A studio space in town, it's no wonder the whispers from interested producers with projects never solidified. They're gonna have trouble finding places to build and shoot, until new stages get built. Some likely already found there were no places they wanted that were willing to do deals.

I think this is a great opportunity to see local production with local talents. Hopefully, this will also increase French Canadian contents.

Netflix is reacting to the success of The Handmaid's Tale (Take5/Showtime) and Letterkenny (Crave/Hulu) in the States. Both shows are financed out of Toronto.

Netflix bought the American rights to Alias Grace, even though the show got mixed reviews south of the border, it was enough for the company to buy into the local market. Alias Grace star Sarah Gadon, in a limited role, is currently crushing it in True Detective. Netflix has been forced to cancel Jessica Jones and The Punisher due to rights owned by Disney. They need more original content to replace them.

Good for Toronto, we'll need to build more sound stages to keep up with the demand. Americans got addicted to Letterkenny primary from this scene, Hulu picked up the remaining four seasons and has asked for more...Bonnie McMurray!

Netflix is desperate for content so no surprise they're capitalizing on Toronto's film industry. Probably same thing going on everywhere.

i can mylett bust a move on my Netflix anytime
Letterkenny has an 8.4 audience score on IMDB, which puts it level with Ray Donovan.

All the Letterkenny ladies are hot, Kanihetio Horn (Tanis), Kamilla Kowal (Bonnie McMurray) and I can't forget the Napolitan whore Melanie Scrofano (Mrs. McMurray).

Just don't call her scrofa, she looks tough. Anyone see this show?

Whew! So far no protests from the usual suspects. Normally, they would be out in force arguing that (Wal-Mart, Amazon, etc.) are displacing local mom and pop tattoo parlors and local theaters. Looks like they are giving Netflix the deal of approval.
