Neil Young’s music is being removed from Spotify after Joe Rogan objection

:ROFLMAO:
He already took of the threat off his website and Neil is in discussion with the record company. Apparently he sold half his album so the company who bought it can't be too happy.

Young enjoyed decades of freedom to create and express his opinions. Now, he wants to deny that to others. Fuck you and the horse you rode in on, sir!

Will be curious if any other big name artists or groups follow suit.
Sad to see that covid has caused more issues & division amongst people or us vs them attitude than I ever thought possible. More than Republicans vs Democrats or Trump vs those who don't believe he walks on water & is Teflon

Not sure on that, he likely knew the result beforehand. Great advt on his part, as now many are talking again about his music.
It’s great to talk about him but will that relate to sale???? I think not. He just cut off an income stream. Not that he needs it. Well maybe he does but I doubt it.

Agree, this in no way hurts Young. He's beyond fuck-you money so this will give him an extra boost before he eventually sells off his catalogue.

I’d be keen to hear what “60% of his streaming revenues” means in $$$.

AFAIK, Spotify pays artists the least per listen at $0.0033 (1,000,000 = $3,300). How long does it take Neil to get a million listens in this era?

Something tells me that this probably is a drip in his $200 million net worth bucket for a guy pushing 80.

And TOTALLY up his ally personally / politically / ethically. If Neil Young said those things then backed down, I would have probably laughed at him too.

I like Neil Young’s music, and have a sprinkling of his well-known stuff on some public playlists I curate, and love some of his albums and concerts. This is a bummer for me and his fans, but Neil Young isn’t the joke here.

I also have Apple Music and Tidal, and this is one more reason for dumping Spotify as soon as I can.

Interesting that Garth Brooks refused years ago to go on Spotify. He's always danced to his rules. Years ago, he told his label, its his album, he picks what song gets released 1st. Pretty sure he's done ok for himself over the years. Walked away from touring to raise his family & came back after his girls were older

If you support Neil Young that much to leave Spotify, then you likely weren't listening to Rogan anyhow. Rogan has lost most of his liberal and even many moderate listeners but has bolstered his support among the conservative market. This story just entrenches Rogan and his supporters as more of the "victims" that they already believe themselves to be.
Young's art dwarfs Rogans to a laughable degree so it's not a comparison of whose legacy is greater but few will leave Spotify if they lose Neil Young. They would lose many more customers if they lost Rogan.
I doubt he has lost that much support amongst liberals.

I was reading that Neil Young doesn't even own most of the rights to his music. Not sure who does but I guess that they honored Young's wishes to have his music removed.

CripesSpotify gave Rogan a 100 million dollar contract. He has the #1 podcast in the world. And apparently has already made the money back for Spotify.

Young has the right to do this but this is the result I expected.

If you know anything about Neil Young, he doesn't really seem to care about money that much. I mean, he could've kept recording albums that sounded like Harvest, but he likes to mix it up. Hell, he's recorded everything from porto-industrial noise to blues, jazz, country, grunge and even cover albums.

Plus, Spotify pays peanuts. Now, as an established artist, he probably made a few thousand bucks a month (possibly more).

As for Rogan, he is peddling misinformation and it is actually dangerous. Think of all the people on this board and around the world who listen to him move goal posts and tells falsehoods about the safety of the vaccine. He could literally convincing people to do things that will get them killed. Now, I'm not surprised Spotify chose Rogan. They paid him a buttload for the exclusive rights to the podcast. He is popular. Neil has legion of fans, but they are older and probably don't subscribe to streaming services.

But I respect Neil Young a hell of a lot more than Rogan. Neil has always put his money where his mouth is. He helped launch Farm Aid, written protests songs and refused to allow his music to be used in commercials and for political purposes. Lord knows he could make a ton if he reversed this.

You are so right about Rogan. He had Dan Aykroyd on a while back and they spent over an hour disseminating misinformation about the aliens. Extremely dangerous !
