Didn't Olivia Chow abuse the federal parliament mailing sending mayoral campaign materials to some Scarborough residents just hours before she quit Ottawa?
Not illegal.

From the National Post: "The Board of Internal Economy is expected to say Tuesday that it will change the rules to more clearly delineate what kind of activities can be performed by staff who draw paycheques from the House of Commons.

The Board will say that while it hasn’t found clear evidence of NDP wrongdoing, the satellite offices remain under investigation and the bylaws will be amended to keep parties from using House of Commons resources to pay for staff outside of Ottawa."

The workers in question were part of Mulcair's staff, according to the NDP.

Should be. Trust Olivia to know, she the expert on the use of public funds.
She's not the NDP leader or even an MP anymore. You really should talk to someone about getting help for your obsession with asian socialist women.

The NDP broke no rules nor did anything unethical or illegal. All they did is provide services closer to where they're needed, instead of keeping all there staff in Ottawa.

This is a gross and imoral abused of power on part of tje tories and liberals in order to hide who the real criminals are. This will bite them in the ass. The board of internal economy is being abused in an unethical way.

Putting house paid staff in a political office is certainly unethical. They were caught trying to use public money for their own benefit.

Dirty.
Well they are pols after all. Of course we all know the PMO never has anything to do with the political side, that's why the Chief of Staff there (paid by us taxpayers, not the Party) had to personally reimburse the Treasury for Senator Duffy's expenses as a CPoC fundraiser and after-dinner speaker. In this case it appears the same folks doing the same things in an Ottawa office that said Official Opposition on the door instead of NDP woulda been as OK as the PMO.

Only the trivial details differ and the whose pointing the fingers, because they all do some version of it. Pots and kettles pretending only the other guy is black.

All the NDP did was find away to provide suppior service for Canadians for the same price. This is witch hunt, by the two parties that are really corrupt in the hopes of distracting Canadians from the real crimes inthe senate and by various Tory and Liberals. The Tories and thier Liberal handmaidens are abusing power and taxpayers dollars with this bullshit.

I do agree with Lovehobby that Mulcair handled himself fantasically at the Kangeroo court, where a parade of rightwing buffoons embarrassed themselves. None of them can match wits with Mulcair.

One guy is talking law without realizing Mulcair literally wrote the textbook he's poorly trying to reference. It was funny when Mulcair offered him an autographed copy of it.

Mulcair had some ziggering, in addition to some good points in his defence. I qoute him later.

And Justin Trudeau is such a fucking tool for aiding the Tories in this debuckle.

On the brightside Mulcair showed he could remain cool under pressure, that could handle all the bullshit thrown at him, and fire it right back. And all without letting anyone get under his skin. He came off as a Prime Minister. This is how Chretien would have handled this bullshit.

We all know exactly what he was doing: spending public money on political campaign work. Dirty as they come.

They tried to hide it, lying in forms and in statements about where these people were going to be. Then they stashed them in a campaign office.

Now they are pretending it is all just a big misunderstanding but you would have to be pretty drunk on orange kool aid not to know what they were really doing.

Caught red handed. They are spinning up major damage control now, and it is going to get a lot worse.

The only thing that may save them is that as an irrelevant also ran, the press may let up, and not dig into this the way they would if a true national party tried this crap.

Considering how the cons have wasted a billion on partisan advertising masquerading as government ads, this is pretty petty.

Every government does that. A billion is an interesting number though...kind of like only one of the many Provincial Lib scandals isn't it?

At the very least is is blatantly corrupt and deeply unethical. Whether they found a loophole to sneak through or whether they violated the letter of the law remains to be seen. Plus they are in furious damage control now, full spin. If it comes out that these people working in campaign office were assigned to dodgy tasks this goes to the RCMP.

That have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Only question left is whether they get off on a technicality or whether they went full hog to the trough.
