Read the Kamil Kazani article, tovarishch Nottsky. I'll help you.

In Russia, only the armed forces and - perhaps - the secret service has any real power. The people are powerless pawns. They're not going to vote Putin out or limit his power.

So Putin can kill Navalny any time as a flex, unless N has armed forces support. N didn't.

So killing Navalny last year, this year, next year is nyet importantsky. He has to die sometime, just to show that Putin has a big dick. But the time frame isn't relevant.

Pazhalsta, tovarishch.
Thats rubbish. There is a state apparatus that gives Putin power. They are the ones that put him there in the first place. External polls indicated Putin is more popular then any Western leader. Are there people that hate him? Of course. But he would win regardless. There are reason why their system is so closed. The constant external attempts to interfere with Russian politics is one. Nevalney was a western backed stooge. A white supremacist that was reimaged as an anti-corruption crusader. he was a traitor and died a traitor. He was NOT popular in Russia and Russians viewed him as a carpet bagger.

But what makes you think Navanley was any better than Putin?
Exactly. Fact is Putin has significantly advanced the Russian economy and nation since he came to power. that is quiet a feat. Russians are a different people. A huge part of their self is being Russian, an old nation with a long history. They fact that Putin has taken a broken Russia and made it once again into a powerful nation is the reason he is loved by Russians and hated in the West.

Russia isn't very powerful.
They couldn't even take over 1/4 of Ukraine.

Huh? I didn't say any such thing. Ever.

I also deliberately did not bring Navalny's politics into the discussion because I didn't want to risk the real issue (Putin's killing of Navalny) being sidetracked.

FWIW, I think Navalny was grossly misguided and I have no respect for much of what he stood for.

Agreed.

Which means what you said is Russia's perpetual problem machine, is the problem.

He came to power in post Soviet Russia that had experienced a decade of extreme dislocation and he coincidentally enjoyed the benefits of the oil and gas boom and used it to stabilize the economy a little.

He then failed to create a modern economic state, but simply skimmed the oil monies for himself and his klepto buddies. He then retreated to the old Soviet methods of sham elections, dictatorship and eliminating any threats and substituted worship of Russian history and "special-ness" - i.e. Saint Wankoslav of Kiyev in 555 AD - for the Soviet belief system.

And then he killed anyone who would interfere with his little set up for 25 years.

And no. The reason that Russians are a "different people" is that they buy into the shit about being destined to rule all eastern Europe and genocide the other nations and that's why Vlad jerks them off about Saint Wankoslav of Kiyev. It get Russians hard in the same way owning Black people got Alabamans hard in 1855.

Everyone kills Biden and Zelensky killed Gonzalo Lira, an obscure critic with a youtube channel. Zelensky's been assassinating people in Russia and if you think the US admin is not aware of it then you are even more cluelesss then I thought. What about the US murdering the Iranian defence minister and 3 Iraqis? How many times did the CIA try to kill Castro?
Lira was a scam artist who was jailed for spreading pro Russian propaganda and got ill while in jail in Kiev.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzalo_Lira

In April 2022, Lira briefly disappeared and claimed to have been detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).[10][11] In May 2023 Lira was arrested and charged with producing and publishing material that attempted to justify the ongoing Russian invasion, which is illegal under Ukrainian law.[6][12] Lira was released on bail, but attempted to flee the country. He was arrested again for violating his bail conditions, and died of pneumonia in custody on January 12, 2024.[13]

From 2017 onward, Lira was active on YouTube under the pseudonym Coach Red Pill (CRP), an allusion to Red Pill and Black Pill symbolism in the manosphere community. The content was misogynistic[9] and anti-feminist in nature, appealing to incels.[25] Lira posted videos with advice such as "never date a woman in her thirties" and argued that all women wanted was money, a house, and kids, as only child-rearing would biologically validate them.[8] In one video, he advised viewers living in Western democracies to move to "a poor, underdeveloped country" due to the former's supposed "totalitarian" deployment of COVID-19 vaccines.[26] In November 2021, Lira deleted most of his CRP content and began posting under his legal name.[23]

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Lira shifted the majority of his commentary to the war. Lira's content was heavily pro-Russian, praising Russian military actions and denying Russian attacks on civilians, as well as doxxing Western journalists.[4][27] His content, which has been described as Russian propaganda and disinformation,[9][28][29] was amplified on social media by Kremlin-linked accounts[30] and praised by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.[31][32]

Lira lived in Kharkiv, and married a Ukrainian woman with whom he had two children, though the pair later separated.[8][33]

Arrest and prosecution

On April 15, 2022, friends and family of Lira said that they had lost touch with him, after which Chile's Ministry of Foreign Affairs began searching for his whereabouts.[34][35] Ukraine-based American journalist Sarah Ashton-Cirillo reported Lira's apparent capture by Ukrainian forces on April 18.[25] Lira became the subject of conspiracy theories surrounding his alleged murder,[31][36] but resurfaced alive on April 22, 2022, claiming that he had been detained by the SBU for the period he was missing.[11][37]

On May 1, 2023, Lira was arrested for violating Article 436-2 of Ukraine's criminal code, which prohibits justification of Russia's ongoing invasion of the country.[6][38] The Ukrainian Centre for Strategic Communication and Information Security noted Lira had also shared pro-Russian disinformation such as claiming the Bucha massacre was faked or that the Ukrainian government was a Neo-Nazi regime, and that Lira had shared video of himself insulting Ukrainian soldiers.[39] His arrest was reported by the SBU on May 5.[40][41] Lira was subsequently released on bail and placed under house arrest.[32] He returned to social media to claim to have been tortured while imprisoned, an allegation denied by the SBU.[32] Lira attempted to flee the country by crossing the Hungarian border on July 31 to claim political asylum, but was captured and arrested again for violating his bail conditions.[4][42]

In December 2023, Elon Musk, CEO of X (formerly Twitter), publicly inquired about Lira on his platform, in response to a post by media personality Tucker Carlson calling Lira a political prisoner.[43][44] The SBU responded that Lira had been detained in accordance with the law.[38] Musk's post was also labeled with a Community Note explaining the nature of Lira's charges, after which Musk claimed that the note had been "gamed by state actors".[45][46] In a Business Insider interview that month, Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, who had become a Ukrainian military spokeswoman, asserted that Lira had fabricated his torture accusations in an effort to gain sympathy.[44]

Death

On January 12, 2024, Gonzalo Lira Sr., Lira's father, reported that his son had died in a Ukrainian prison at the age of 55.[24][47] This was confirmed by the United States Department of State[48] and Chile's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[49][50] His cause of death was reported to be pneumonia.[13] Lira Sr. blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and United States President Joe Biden for causing his son's death.[51][52] Russian officials, including Maria Zakharova and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, echoed this claim,[53][54] as did some Western political figures.[55] Cathy Young of The Bulwark criticized anti-Ukraine commentators for spreading misinformation about Lira and exploiting his death, and also issued a call for transparency.[55]

That's a fair take, from my end it just seems like he was another wannabe Putin so its no real loss if another despot was killed by the present despot.
Now if Pussy Riot started a coup.....

He was tortured in an unheated prison cell in Ukraine in winter. His father begged the US embassy to intervene and the president. Scam artist or not, he was an American and they deliberatly allowed him to die because he opposed US policies and had a following on social media. Obama droned a US citizen that was accused of terror but not tried or convicted. Then there i Eptein, and the countless other killing by US admins in history....and what about Asange? All the US citizenss murdered by Israel with US complicity.

So it's bad to "allow people like pro-Russian traitor scam artist Lira to die of pnumonia in custody of Ukraine in wartime,, droning a suspected terrorist engaged in conflict in another country creating terror, etc etc , but because of that .... it's ok for Russian President to poison a political critic and opponent, then imprison him in Siberia etc?

Yeah, pure, *, Vatnik Orc logic right there.

IMHO, Putin had nothing more to gain by taking further active measures to kill off Navalny. And lots to lose this close to his re-election, being that as it may be.

Both my parents' direct causes of death were as a result of being laid up in hospital, short term, developing a blood clot and suffering a fatal pulmonary embolism. Nothing to do with the reason for being hospitalized except their temporary lack of mobility and then getting up out of bed. Neither were overweight, diabetic or otherwise had any coronary disease.

The few times I, or close friends/family have been in hospital, the Dr and surgeons insisted that I/we/they get up every hour or so to walk a few steps to reduce the risk of blood clots in the leg.

Same advice for long duration flights..
do we “know” what the solitary measures actually were. It’s possible no matter how remote, that was for his safety as well.

I tend to agree with you in the end. Some here would be all for Bernardo being erased from memory, not sure isolation for life is much joy either.

Nor, given present conditions. do I see any upside for Putin making a martyr of him. Why do, what everyone assumes you will when the problem is solved and rotting away somewhere.

What's your point Nottinsky, Dick Cheney hasn't been tried for crimes against humanity either.

Putinesca controls the FSB (former KGB) and is aligned with the Russian mafia, that's his power base. If there was any doubt that he had Navalny wacked, the attack on his aide Leonid Volkov in Lithuania should dispel those doubts.

Except..... Lira was a serial liar, fraudster and grifter who tried VERY hard to get arrested, so he could blog about it.

I'm taking the "tortured in an unheated prison cell" shit with a big grain of Siberian salt.

These are ways a blood clot can occur without the use of drugs.

Blood clots can form for various reasons, including:
  1. Inactivity: Prolonged periods of immobility, such as during long flights or bed rest after surgery, can lead to the formation of blood clots.
  2. Injury to blood vessels: Damage to a blood vessel can trigger the formation of a clot to stop bleeding.
  3. Hypercoagulability: Conditions or medications that increase the clotting ability of the blood, such as certain genetic conditions or hormone therapies, can increase the risk of blood clots.
  4. Obesity: Being overweight or obese can increase the risk of blood clots.
  5. Smoking: Smoking can damage blood vessels and increase the risk of clot formation.
  6. Certain medical conditions: Conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and inflammatory disorders can increase the risk of blood clots.
  7. Certain medications: Some medications, such as hormonal contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy, can increase the risk of blood clots.
  8. Surgery: Major surgery, especially orthopedic surgeries like hip or knee replacements, can increase the risk of blood clots.
  9. Pregnancy: Pregnancy increases the risk of blood clots due to changes in blood flow and clotting factors.
  10. Age: The risk of blood clots increases with age.
It's important to note that these factors can increase the risk of blood clots but do not guarantee that a clot will form.
