They're smarter now, they call with offshore telephone numbers!!

tell me about it - infact since registering I think I have started to receive more calls and text messages from automated telemarketing machines.

Maybe they sold the entire list of numbers

It will take at least 30 days for the telemarketers to update their books.

You will start to see a decrease next month.

I have seen no decrease at all. I am however seeing more calls from blocked numbers, and recorded messages as opposed to real people.

I sometimes answer the phone as a pizzeria, sometimes I ask them what they are paying me for my time - I tell them I have a paypal account and to send money before I continue, on of my favorite things to do is to tell them that I am soliciting money for a charitable cause....

Oh then you have to pretend you don't speak English or even better yet hold the phone far away from your ear and start speaking loudly...

Yes some nights I am bored and watch paint dry - LOL....

I have a better solution now, check call display, if its 1-800, 1-888 or private/unknown number then just dont answer the phone

since I register & after the 31 days that take effect, I only get 2 calls from telemarketer/canvassers so far.

A couple of years ago there was a piece on CBC Radio 1 about a guy who has fun with telemarketers. The one I remember goes something like:

No one from Acme came, but the police were there pretty soon.

If you have/had any business relationship with them they are allowed under the DNCL to contact you however, you can ask to be put on their internal list. If you do this for every call you get soon most of the repeat ones will stop.

Got the same thing..stupidly answered it...was an automated message-from the captain of a cruise ship saying I had won a free cruise!

Those stupid cruises are going around like the flu virus. I've got them on both my US numbers and one of my Canadian ones.

So how does one get on this national do not call list?

I surely can't get any MORE f*cking phone calls from these people by trying it! 2-3 per day plus another 3 or so where nobody says a word and another 1 or 2 from automated services.

Quite seriously, if you want to play a really NASTY prank on someone, donate money in their name and give the charity his / her phone number. Once one has it, they ALL will have it as those organisations sell their contact lists to each other.
