I have also driven the Focus, and loved it. It's economical, reliable, and pretty good looking. However, the Civic is one step ahead the Focus in all three areas.
They are both good vehicles. Each to their own. If it works for you, then stick with your choice!

I used to like GM, my first car was a 79 LeMans, that was a great car. My 1990 Grand Am with the 16 Valve HO was a disaster, mechanically, electrically and body-wise. I vowed never to buy another GM, again. The warranty folks were a$$holes, as well as the dealership that sucked the life out of my wallet. However, I have heard that some Grand Am owners had nothing but great service from their choices. And, have also heard good things about their trucks. So, who is right and who is wrong? Every one who is happy wth their choice is correct!:)

Ford builds some pretty interesting day to day drivers in both Europe and Australia. I believe that the technology is making its way here (finally)

Add to that the best trucks on the road and I think Ford should do the best of the 3
The Focus in Europe is more expensive comparatively speaking than other similar cars, I have been told. The Focus we see here was designed in Germany (at least the 2000 model year), in 1999. Interestingly, in 2002, it was rated as the Most Reliable Car in Europe. I can also say that by 2000, the Focus had won almost 50 international awards. I miss my 2000 ZTS, the model that won Car of the Year in its category.

It will be great to see more European automotive ideas coming to Canada and the USA.

Once again, there are a lot of great cars out there. I think that, for what it was designed, the Focus is one of them, because I have owned two of them and have been quite pleased with both of them.

.... some director level guy at GM Canada said the buck stops with him and he said no. That was the last GM car I have owned & will be the last period.

I think this is the main problem with GM. It's not that the cars are built crappy, it's the attitude/arrogance of the management.

Why should we bail them out when they seem to go out of their way to bite the hands that feed them?

That problem may not have been just the head gasket but the head itself was probably deforming.
I had a similar issue with my GM car in the mid 90s .
The head replacement was covered by the warranty, however the coolant that leaked burnt out a sensor which was not covered by the warranty.

Oh yeah, I had black tape over the check engine light...we have no smog or safety checks in Michigan...the car was running fine so I cover the light up with black tape :D

GM does make better cars today, for the money that new Buick is darn good and has a 5 year warranty.

GM is for shit how they ran the company in the ground and here the CEO won't even quit!!...Like it wasn't his fault, yeah.
