GENTRIFICATION KILLS . . . . . colors, flavors, textures of the toronto we love
You're obviously a great champion and steward of our city, and we are blessed that it's among the best in the world and that there is so much demand from around the world to come to live in it.

Cities go thru cycles. Right now we're at the stage of renewal, but there will also be stages of stability and decline again, and it's during those periods where new identities are forged within communities. Parkdale was originally for the richest torontonians only, then became a community for the working class, then for the poor and starving artists and mentally ill, and then a mix of poor immigrants. Now it's becoming a haven professional millennials. The process never really ends, so it will take on another identity in the decades to come.

We won't live to see it but I imagine a time when Liberty Village, now a flourishing hidden enclave of young people, becoming a scary place because of its relative lack of access from the main streets. A place where ordinary people never drive thru, especially at night, because of the violent gangs, psychos, and degenerates that rule the territory.

It will be interesting to see what "new" Regent Park (a bold experiment in social engineering) will look like in 10=20 years.

My fav Piccolo Cazzo

Very astute observation my man. Honestly, never really thought of that way, but you're absolutely right, cities are constantly mutating, morphing from one generation to the next.

I guess what's got me Gentri-Raging is my recent trip to LIL POLAND (Roncesvalles Village). Fuck me in the ass with a prickly cactus , I barely recognize the neighborhood anymore.

Deli's, bakeries, grocery stores are the heart and soul of any ethnic, mom & pop, family-style neighborhood.

Lil Poland is having it's Soul fuckin' crushed . . . . . .

4-5 years ago I stopped by and scooped the yummm yummiest Eastern Euro Eats in T.O. . . . . . . Schnitzel, Strudel, Sauerkraut, Kolbasa, Borscht, Perogies, Potato Latke's, Spinach Crepes etc. Deeeeelishciousness -- Pure Awesomeness. :p

Behind the counter was a Beautiful Bodacious Babushka. She must've been hoovering around 50 yrs old and she was still sexy as hell! Tall Amazon with long blonde hair, huge rack and a thick sexy Polish accent. Soooo hot.

Her and I were flirting, friendly banter back n' fourth over the counter. When I told her my background was Italian/Portuguese, she looked horrified. Next 20 - 30 mins we were talking, laughing about what an asshole her Ex-Portuguese boyfriend was and how she would love to see him one last time to toss him a serious beatin'! HaHaHa

Kicker is . . . . . . randomly meeting exotic women who come from exotic places all over the world, here to T.O., walk into their neighborhood, it's like being transported into another world......'their' world. Hard to explain, it's trippy.

Vibrant, colorful neighborhoods like Roncesvalles Village are being taken over by more and more hipster wannabe's.

Like seriously, do we really need more Soy-boys opening more gay as fuck soy-latte coffee shops? Urgh! So Gross! :embarassed:

I never knew there was a Whisky a go go downtown. I only know the Whiskey in Vaughan.
Definitely miss the Big Slice!

Is that Doner Kebab House place still open? The one with the yellow sign in that photo right next to The Big Slice? In my opinion they made the best chicken doner with that heavenly garlic sauce late 90s early 2000s. Can still taste it each time I think about it. Nothing ever came close.

Bro, after glossing over Jessy's reviews, I was curious what all the fuss was about and how the east-coast Nova Scotian garlic sauce version was different from the Greek Gyros and the Middle-Eastern Donar Kebab

In a nutshell, the Nova Scotian style garlic sauce is typical 'mungiacake' . . . . . sweet

GREEK GYROS (Tzatziki Sauce)
- yogart
- fresh lemon juice
- fresh garlic
- olive oil
- fresh dill

MIDDLE-EASTERN DONAR KEBAB (Tahini Sauce)
- sesame seeds
- fresh lemon juice
- fresh garlic
- olive oil
- fresh parsley

NOVA SCOTIAN/NEWFOUNDLAND DONAIR (Twinkie Cake Sauce)
- condensed milk
- vinegar
- garlic powder

Who knows . . . . . . Garlic -- Hostess Twinkie sauce might be killer!

The charm and character of Toronto is being destroyed by the developers and the huge dollars involved. In my opinion new condo development should be pushed north of Eglinton to save what's left of the downtown core. Otherwise you will have a concrete, steel and glass jungle like New York where there are few businesses left and no one goes out after dark because it's just too desolute. Just look at streets like Wellington and University now. Soon they may all be that way. I don't even live there, but it's my favorite place to hang out. Try to keep it that way!
That part of town will lose its character :(
Agree.....Toronto is losing its character;
Give it a few years and it will be some generic condo jungle
Feel you Bro's, we're not the only dudes who feels that way . . . . . .
